Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28 gives readers almost too much of a good thing when Mr. Mxyzptlk gives Jimmy Olsen his powers to fight off an interdimensional entity for the fate of the world.
Is Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28 Good?
When last we left the world's greatest hero, Jimmy Olsen, in Batman / Superman: World's Finest #27, a healthy dose of mite magic gave him the ability to split into a team of all his super-powered incarnations and vanquish the villain mites. The issue ended with the powerful villain behind the mite invasion arriving on Earth.
In Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28, Jimmy is confronted by the massive, magical, entity with a challenge to the death. Mr. Mxyzptlk does the only thing that comes to mind when Robin orders him to protect Jimmy - he grants Jimmy all his imp powers. Jimmy quickly finds out that there are benefits to having the powers of a god.
Meanwhile, the World's Finest and Bat-Mite encounter time echoes of themselves and other versions of themselves while they're stuck in the 6th Dimension. Our heroes order Bat-Mite to get back home after they realize Bat-Mite is stalling because the 6th Dimension conjures every version of Batman across Time and Space, creating a Heaven for Bat-Mite. What follows is a montage of leaps through Dimensions, but Bat-Mite overshoots the mark and lands the trio in the 1st Dimension.
Elsewhere, Earth's heroes desperately try to get to the championship fight, but Metropolis is surrounded by an impenetrable forcefield. Robin suddenly realizes that something isn't right. The Doom-Mite appears to have defeated Jimmy with a titanic punch, but the villain won't leave the 3rd Dimension. Robin leaps into action and begins taunting the villain to buy time and hopefully expose the villain's motivation and/or weakness.
The delay tactic worked but only briefly before Robin gets zapped with a painful blast. When the Boy Wonder is about to be killed, the Justice Mites arrive. Jimmy explains that the titanic blow didn't kill him because he zapped himself away to the 5th Dimension at the last instant. There, he found the other hero mites cowering, and he rallied the troops to return to Earth to save the day.
Sadly, the Justice Mites are no match for the massive villain. Thankfully, Bat-Mite heeded a pep talk by Batman and returned the World's Finest to Earth to join the fight. Unfortunately, before Batman can tell everyone his plan (because Batman always has a plan), the villain zaps Batman into the form of a lifeless puppet.
What's great about Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28? Mark Waid continues to deliver the biggest, loudest, wildest, craziest, most entertaining comic in terms of pure sugar-coated fun from DC (or Marvel). You know you're in for a good time when the most wholesome character in existence, Jimmy Olsen, lets his imagination run wild.
What's not so great about Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28? The wild craziness is almost a little too much. When you overdo your sugar consumption, a slight crash is inevitable, and the fun starts to turn into noise. Waid hits you so hard and fast with one crazy development after another that no moment has enough time to breathe. Instead of getting a comic with cool, fun ideas, you're getting the TikTok montage clip version of a comic with cool, fun ideas.
How's the Art? Surprisingly, the art takes a slight dip in this issue, mostly due to the artist handoff between Dan Mora and Travis Mercer. Their styles are close but not indistinguishable, and you can clearly see when Mora stops and Mercer stops. In terms of art, there are far worse comics on the shelves, but in a series noted for practically perfect art, the bar is too high to not notice a dip in quality, albeit a small one.

Final Thoughts
Batman / Superman: World's Finest #28 shoots you in the face with a firehose of action, twists, energy, and big, loud developments. That said, Mark Waid's tale of interdimensional imps run amok is turning into hyper-hero overload, and the art team's quality takes a slight dip.
