Batman / Superman: World's Finest #17 concludes the Robot Uprising and the fight against Newmazo with a battle for the ages. How do you defeat an ultra-powerful enemy that only gets more powerful whenever you get close to it?
Is It Good?
In a sea of painfully bad comics and mediocre stories, Batman / Superman: World's Finest #17 stands out as the lifesaving buoy to remind you why you enjoyed comics in the first place. It's not good. It's great.
When last we left the World's Finest, we learned the evolved brother to the original Amazon, Newmazo, had overwritten the code of every robot on Earth to begin a new Robot Uprising and subjugate humanity. Now, Batman, Superman, and the rest of the heroes combine forces with DC's greatest roboticists and futurists to take back control of their robot creations for an all-out assault against Newmazo. But is it enough?
No, it's not enough. Thankfully, hope and the world's finest superheroes find a way.
Batman / Superman: World's Finest #17 is the kind of comic that reminds you why you fell in love with superhero comics in the first place. The plot is simple (except for a surprise twist to make the battle interesting), the battle is as big as it gets, Waid grips readers with urgent pacing to keep you on the edge of your seat, and the final twist is a clever "oh, snap" moment.
What's great about this issue? Everything. Everything is great about this issue. In the truest sense of the word, the ending to the Robot Uprising arc looks and feels EPIC.
What's not so great about this issue? Nothing. There's nothing that isn't great about this issue.
How's the art? Did you not read what I wrote above? It says, "There's nothing that isn't great about this issue," and that goes doubly-so for Dan Mora's exquisite art. Right now, Mora is the top artist in DC, and this issue is exhibit A.
