Vamping It Up

Writer: Matthew Rosenberg, James Tynion IV
Artist: Simone Di Meo, Otto Schmidt
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2022

After not liking the first issue much, this series has become one of my favorites.  It is on my $25 Do-or-Die Pull List (see our podcast if you are interested in what that is), and I look forwards to each issue as they come out.  So, does this issue continue upping the ante for me?  Let's find out!

Catwoman #40 Review

Solo

Writer: Tini Howard
Artist: Nico Leon
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2022

I enjoyed the first issue of Tini Howard's new Catwoman run.  She tapped into Genevieve Valentine's Catwoman, which I loved, and has Selina going against some of Gotham's more seedy characters.  The funny thing is that using Valentine's run as a significant backdrop to this story feels like a reset of what happened after it, namely Tom King's Bat/Cat stuff.  I'm not saying it erases it, because it doesn't, just that Selina feels like she has woken up from a long sleep and is dangerous again.  Whether that ends up being a good or a bad thing remains to be seen, but let's dive into Catwoman #40 and see how Tini Howard's second issue plays out.

Detective Comics #1054 Review

Jenga!

Writer: Matthew Rosenberg, Mariko Tamaki
Artist: Fernando Blanco, Max Raynor
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 22, 2022

I liked the last issue of Detective Comics more than most of the others, but the bar has been set way low since the start of this weekly "event."  Mariko Tamaki has struggled with pacing this weekly book and keeps losing focus on big and small details throughout.  Let's see how this one turns out...

Aquaman / Green Arrow: Deep Target #5 Review

Land of the Get Lost
Writer: Brandon Thomas
Artist: Ronan Cliquet
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2022

This book has been something else.  Freaky Friday body-switching, changed timelines, and dinosaur people, oh my.  That might sound like fun, but Brandon Thomas does all of it without much overall explanation or reason to care.  So, how does this issue plays out after the last issue's crazy cliffhanger?  Let's find out!

The Lazarus Island Tournament is over and now we're on our way to the Shadow War, but we're not quite there yet. In the previous issue, we saw Damian's grandmother, Mother Soul play some mind games with him to try and get the youth on her side by showing her the history of the Al Ghuls, even if it kind of changed what we've had for decades. Damian stood firm with his convictions and with the help of his friends was able to overcome Mother Soul, now let's see what happens now that Ra's Al Ghul and Talia Al Ghul have come to the island to stop Mother Soul themselves. Squad

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 22, 2022

Let's jump back into Gotham to see how well Jason Todd is faring in his attempt to lead a team of dead super-villains that have been reanimated with Lazarus Resin. Previously we saw that Two-Face was the man behind Jason's recruitment and all the missions he's been on but we also learned that Amanda Waller was shutting him down. Not only that though, but there's also seems to be another team that our Z squad has to go up against and it looks like it might be pretty dangerous since it's led by KGBeast. Let's jump into this issue and see what's going on with this plot concerning Amanda Waller and hopefully learn what Mr. Bloom is really up to. Let's check it out.
