Nightwing #89 Review

Superior Sons
Writer: Tom Taylor
Artist: Bruno Redondo
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 15, 2022

Tom Taylor's run on Nightwing has been a huge hit, though I have been up and down with it.  Dick Grayson is my favorite character because he is the nicest guy in the DCU, and Taylor nails that in each issue... maybe a little too much at times.  Dick is great, but he doesn't have to be the Saint of all Saints, and he certainly doesn't need every other hero rushing to save him all the time.  Still, though, Taylor is far from ruining anything with the character (the other Tom is doing enough of that), and it's a guarantee that readers will smile once or twice with every issue.  So let's jump into Nightwing #89.

Batman: The Knight #2 Review

Morality Play

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Carmine Di Giandomenico
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 15, 2022

Batman: The Knight is one of those books that has to prove to you why it exists.  Bruce Wayne's trading towards becoming Batman is cool, but most readers have seen it before, but what makes this Chip Zdarsky retelling unique and special.  I can't answer that yet, but the first issue has me excited to find out!

I keep waiting for the moment in this weekly Shadows of the Bat story that shows me this whole thing is coming together.  It was a weird play to show us what happens to Tobias Wear to start, but more bizarre, there doesn't seem to be a swerve coming.  Dr. Wear is a piece of shit who is heading for a fall.  Pun very much intended!  Sure, we found out that Doctor Psycho is behind the "miracle cure," but that hasn't even been that interesting overall, and because the reader knows most of what is going on, the Bat-Family always ends up looking like they're two steps behind.  This is the Bat-Family, not MC Skat Kat!  Let's check out this week's issue to see if things turn around now that we are starting the story's second half.

The Flash #779 Review

The Need For Speed

Written By: Jeremy Adams
Art By: Fernando Pasarin, Matt Ryan, Brent Peeples, Jeremiah Skipper, Peter Pantazis, Jeremy Cox, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: February 15, 2022

Eclipso is doing his damnedest to try and bring his influence to the entire Multiverse and to do that he's going to be using the heart of Gemworld to reverberate his mind everywhere and that idea is pretty bananas, but it works for me. I just wish that this story felt as epic as it should because here I am caring way more about Jai and Irey West and Irey's new friend Maxine Baker being kidnapped by the Calculator and two-fifths of the Fearsome Five, Mammoth and Shimmer. In the previous issue, in order to overcome their superpowered kidnappers, Irey connected Jai back to the Speed Force, giving the young West boy his super strength once again and the feeling that their father desperately needed their help. Let's jump into this issue and see if the West Family and the daughter of Animal Man can save Gemworld and with it, the rest of the Multiverse. Let's check it out.

Green Lantern #11 Review

Willpower Kaiju Battle

Written By: Geoffrey Thorne
Art By: Tom Raney, Marco Santucci, Maria Laura Sanapo, Mike Atiyeh, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 15, 2022

The battle for Oa continues this issue as we jump back into not only John Stewart ascending into mortal godhood, but the magically infused rogue Guardian, Koyos trying to take down the remaining Green Lanterns and Guardians so that he can release the Starheart and bring the chaos of magic back into the Universe at full power. At the end of the previous issue, we saw John Stewart absorb the New God, Esok's God-Storm becoming more powerful than he was previously and on Oa, when everything looked like it was a no-win situation, the United Order and members of the Justice League show up to back up what is left of our Emerald Knights. Let's jump into this issue and see if things can turn around for our ringless heroes.

Justice League #72 Review

The Lord Of The Lords Of Chaos Is Back!

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Szymon Kudranski, Emanuela Lupacchino, Wade Von Grawbadger, Hi-Fi, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: February 8, 2022

Hey, remember that two-issue arc that Bendis did in his Superman run about the Lord of the Lords of Chaos, Xanadoth? Well, like most things that happen in Bendis' run of Justice League, he's bringing back one of his characters and while normally the idea that he'll only try to hype the characters that he's created during his Superman, Naomi, and Checkmate runs, this is probably the one character that could probably use it because she was destroyed.... while briefly, so unceremoniously. Let's jump into this issue and see if this magical big bad can be more of a threat than she appeared previously. Let's check it out.
