Action Comics #1047 is a bit of a cooldown issue for Superman.  Mongul is no more and with that Superman can finally return back home and not only see Lois, Jon, and all the people he's missed over that time, but he can get back to doing Superman things..... that is, until Dark Crisis rears its ugly head and snatches our Man of Steel away. Until then, let's jump into this issue and see what a post-Warworld Superman looks like and what he wants to do now that he's home. Let's check it out.

So while we thought that Warworld was in our rearview, especially since Kryl-Ux, betrayed Superman, was the mastermind behind our hero even going to Warworld and who is now the man who can claim leadership not only over the Phaelosians but Warworld as a whole..... It turns out our Man of Steel brought Warworld home to Earth and now our planet has itself a new satellite while Superman figures out how to get its inhabitants back to their real homes and while also convincing the people of Earth that maybe they can let some of Warworld's dangerous inhabitants call our little blue marble home as well. Yeah, it seems like we're going to be getting political... at least a bit as Superman puts himself out there for people he doesn't know, but thankfully the book won't be boring because in the background we have Lex plotting and it looks like now that Phillip Kennedy Johnson has remade Mongul and what the character means, it looks like he's going to do the same with Metallo....... especially since the last time we saw the character he was being killed by Mr. Oz and nobody remembers that or wants to reference it.

For our backup, we actually get to see Superman return with Warworld but boy does this story feel like it throws a wrench into everything that we've been dealing with because out of nowhere or just because the story doesn't care about it anymore, Thao-La is fine after almost dying because of "Genesis" withdrawal...... which our hero, Superman doesn't seem to have a problem with and on top of that, when the Authority returns home, OMAC just seems to be fine now. Really though, this is just setting up some more Warzoon shenanigans on Earth, but boy was this backup rough.

All in all, I really enjoyed the art in the main story and look forward to seeing what Phillip Kennedy Johnson has in store for both Lex and Metallo now that our Man of Steel is finally home, but as for the Warworld stuff....... It feels over and yet this lingering aspect reminds me about how our Warworld story went on too long and it continuing to be here just feels like an odd play, even though there is some resolution yet to come out of what Superman intends to do with the liberated planet. It's a bit of a mixed bag, but it's miles above anything that the backup gives us because in that everything feels off and I'm not a fan of the art in that story at all. At this point, I just hope we can end the backup and spend our page count dealing with our main story because while I'm not positive where it will go yet, it's got to be better than what the backup is currently giving us.

Bits and Pieces:

Action Comics #1047 gives us something big.... Superman is back! It's just too bad that he's still dealing with Warworld shenanigans and looks like he'll be doing it for the foreseeable future. Thankfully though we have some great art and Phillip Kennedy Johnson taking a stab at reworking Metallo into the mix, which I can't wait to see. Sadly though, the backup feels like nonsense...... But hey, at least we have Metallo..... and Superman back.

6.5/10
