DC is in the midst of shamelessly milking Batman for everything he is worth (and it turns out that he has a lot of money), so I was interested in seeing if a non-standard story featuring the character could end up being a breath of fresh air.

Written By: Stephanie Phillips

Letters By: Deron Bennett
Cover Art By: Riley Rossmo
Cover Price: $3.99

Harley Quinn #7 is another in a string of issues in this series that struggles with its own identity. The lowest common denominator for Phillips' depiction of Harley is as a wacky loon, and true to the lowest common denominator, this issue goes all out in its telling of Harley's support group field trip as a Looney Tunes cartoon.

Deathstroke Inc. #1 Review

Stroke Squad

Artist: Howard Porter
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 28, 2021

I have been anticipating this book coming out since DC Comics first announced it, but the recent one-shot in Batman: Urban Legends had me even more excited.  I am a Black Canary fan, but I am also here to see what the "everything matters" Infinite Frontier has done for Slade.  I was a fan of Priest's Deathstroke run and hope that we get a little good guy Deathstroke to go with the usual bad.  So, what is this book all about, and is it any good?  Let's find out...

Continuing our story of the refugees from Warworld, we previously saw Mongul's forces teleporting into the Fortress of Solitude to not only kill Superman's loved ones but to kill the refugees as well since Thao-La wasn't able to finish the murder job she was originally sent there to do. On top of that, we saw Superman take the Genesis Fragment from Atlantis, stopping a war between the underwater kingdom and the US but also making Superman persona non grata to both factions. Let's jump into this issue and see if Superman can not only stop the Mongul from murdering people he loves but also get back in the good graces of everyone around him. Let's check it out.

Beyond that, our JLD are dealing with Merlin in Atlantis where the ancient wizard plans on gaining even more power for his possible evil means and it's up to Zatanna to stand in his way. Checkmate #4 Review

Art By: Alex Maleev, Dave Stewart, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 28, 2021

It's time to get back to the espionage world of Checkmate, where Leviathan is up to some dastardly stuff.... like teleporting people places back and force and standing around and talking about things but just being coy enough about their subject matter that we at home playing along still have no idea what the end goal of anything is. So yeah, we have the big bad Leviathan doing some weird stuff and we have Checkmate not sure about said weird stuff trying to take him down. Let's jump into this issue so we can see more people standing around and talking about things that never really get fully explored... Let's check it out.

Superman: Son of Kal-El #3 Review

Truth, Justice, And The Right To Remain Silent

Written By: Tom Taylor
Art By: John Timms, Gabe Eltaeb, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 28, 2021

It's time to get back to the world of Jon Kent and his pursuit to figure out what kind of Superman he's going to be. In the previous issue, we saw our young hero save a boat full of refugees from Gamorra and demand that they were treated with respect by the American authorities, which may have been a bit of a misstep for Jon not only because he's taking more of a social stance against authority but because the President of Gamorra isn't one to be made to look bad and giving his people asylum did just that. Also, it looks like Jon made a friend in a podcaster/YouTuber who is all about exposing the truth..... I only hope it isn't just what he considers the truth though. Let's jump into this issue and see what Jon is up to this issue.
