Superman and the Authority #3 Review

The Elite Authority

Writer: Grant Morrison
Artist: Travel Foreman, Mikel Janin
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: September 14, 2021

It is crazy how much I have enjoyed this series so far.  I know it was supposed to be a 5G thing, and now DC Comics is trying to squeeze it into the "everything matters" Infinite Frontier continuity, but I likes what I likes and I can almost say I've loved it so far.  However, I am starting to worry that there will not be enough space to tell a complete story.  Let's jump into the review...

Justice League: Last Ride #5 Review

Get Over It!

Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Miguel Mendonca
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 15, 2021

We are into the second half of this story, and I am still waiting for something to grab me here. The mystery of what Batman did to Martian Manhunter seemed to have been solved and a letdown because it was nothing Batman did to Martian Manhunter.  I guess Superman disagrees, but he comes off in this book like a bit of a prick anyway, so who knows.  The end of the last issue was pretty cool, though, so I am looking forward to jumping into this month's issue.

Batman '89 #2 Review

Two-Face Begins... Sorta

Written By: Sam Hamm
Art By: Joe Quinones, Leonardo Ito, and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 14, 2021

Batman '89 #2 continues the Burtonverse's version of the Two-Face origin story by focusing on the systemic racism of Gotham City and what it means to be a black D.A. in a city grappling with police injustice and masked vigilantes. When Harvey Dent's star begins to climb even higher, he's confronted with the split between his professional career and doing what's best for the oppressed in Gotham. Meanwhile, another vigilante who stops thugs from robbin' (get it! Hah!) a store begins to earn his own reputation.

Wonder Woman #779 Review

Living the Lasso Life

Writer: Becky Cloonan and Michael Conrad
Artist: Travis Moore
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: September 14, 2021

I have not been enjoying this run on Wonder Woman, but every new issue is a chance to jump onto the trolley, and I am convinced that once we get Diana back with the living, that may happen.  Of course, we aren't there yet, but I see the light at the end of the tunnel.  With that said, I still have my head in the here and now and am hoping for a good ending to a very long opening stanza by Cloonan and Conrad.  Do we get that here?  Let's find out...

Now that we've gotten the rest of the Next Batman: Second Son digital series out of the way by packaging what was left as I Am Batman #0, it's time to get to our Jace Fox being the Next Batman story proper and with that show more of Gotham City under the imminent threat of being completely taken over by the Magistrate with the idea being spread around that Batman is dead.  Let's see how Jace deals with this and how he plans on fighting back....... I'm pretty sure I have an idea how.  Let's check it out.

The Joker #7 Review

Let Vengeance Be Your Guide

Written By: James Tynion IV, Sam Johns
Art By: Guillem March, Arif Prianto, Tom Napolitano, Sweeney Boo, Ariana Maher
Cover Price: $5.99
Release Date: September 14, 2021

The hunt for the Joker continues but things might have slowed down in that area since in the previous issue we saw that Interpol had arrested Jim Gordon on suspicion of murder, but we know that's all a setup since we also saw that the Joker had set our former Commissioner up either to slow him down or just to see the look on old Jimmy-boy's face. Maybe things will pick up outside of Jim Gordon's story though as we know that Vengeance, the Daughter of Bane, and the cannibalistic Sampson Family are on the hunt for the Joker as well. Let's jump into this story and see where this hunt takes us and if we get any more looks at the Court of Owls as the Batgirls continue to look into Jim Gordon's mysterious benefactors.

Titans United #1 Review

Kind Of United

Written By: Cavan Scott
Art By: Jose Luis, Jonas Trindade, Rex Lokus, Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 14, 2021

It's time to check out this seven-part mini-series where we take the Titans team from the HBO show and throw them into a possible in-continuity comic. The weird part about this issue is that it doesn't feel like it's a part of the HBO series and also doesn't feel like it's a part of the comics continuity but what we do have is a limited series that's showcasing one of the most interesting Titans teams that I've seen in a long time and them being confronted by their powers in weird and mysterious ways so let's jump into this issue and see what this is all about.

The battle of Synmar Utopica and our Justice League continues this story but for how long it's taking and for how well we've seen our heroes do so far...... I'm not sure that they're up to the task of taking down this alien threat. Thankfully though, they won't have to do it alone since previously we saw Batman bring in some former Justice League members to lend a hand, and also by the end of the last issue, we saw the United Planets' Elite Guard, The United Order show up to hopefully save the day. Let's jump into this issue and see if all of these forces can stop the Superman of Synmar. Let's check it out.
