Batman/Superman #16 Review

Double Take

Writer: Gene Luen Yang
Artist: Ivan Reis
Publisher: DC Comics
Release Date: March 24, 2021
Cover Price: $3.99

Gene Luen Yang is a gem!  I don't know him personally, but I don't think there is a better person in comics, so I always check out every new book from him.  Also, he's a damn good writer, so I was excited when DC announced he would be taking over Batman/Superman after the Future State break.  I kind of wish this was a new #1, but I keep saying that with all the books with new creatives right now, and as far as I can tell, DC is not listening to little old me.  Batman/Superman #16 is a fresh start (where is Eric to whisper that for me?), and if you are expecting something similar to the Joshua Williamson run, Yang may throw you off a bit.  Actually, this first issue may throw many people off at first with its unique presentation and storytelling.  Let's get into it...

Teen Titans Academy #1 Review

Art By: Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Alejandro Sanchez, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99

We've got a new status quo for the young heroes of the DC Universe and not only that, we've got them working with the older guard of the New Teen Titans from the '80s and the two groups are going to be looking towards the future as they train up the next generation of heroes through the newly formed Roy Harper Academy. It's just too bad that from what we saw in Future State that things aren't going to turn out all that well in the end. Let's just hope that with the new class that there's a glimmer of hope somewhere that the future we saw isn't set in stone and one or many of these new characters will have the power to change it. Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Action Comics #1029 Review

Rinse and Repeat

Written By: Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Becky Cloonan, Michael W. Conrad
Art By: Phil Hester, Eric Gapstur, Hi-Fi, Dave Sharpe, Michael Avon Oeming, Taki Soma
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: March 23, 2021

It's time to move into Action Comics and see what Phillip Kennedy Johnson brings to this title, where maybe we can get a little bit more than we did in his first official Superman issue. I'm not holding my breath and I can't say that I'm looking forward to the Midnighter backup that boosted this issue's price by a dollar but there could be some serious win going on here so let's drop our preconceived notions and give this issue the fair shake that it deserves. Let's check it out.
