Future State: Kara Zor-El Superwoman #2 picks up the story mid-battle as Linari's aunt and cousins arrive on the moon to take the jewel that gives Linari her power. Aunty Kimara explains (with a bewilderingly hillbilly speaking style) Kara needs to let them take Lynari because is a murderer. The story that is both true and false, doesn't sit well with Kara, and she gives up on her self-imposed pacifism to kick some flying, giant, space-eel butt. Things go from bad to worse when Aunty Kimara pulls a Boushh the bounty hunter and threatens to blow up the moon. What's a Superwoman to do?
It's a comic that wants to be a Monet painting. It's a lead character that looks like Elsa but still can't let it go. It's Future State.
Was It Good?
This reviewer is poking the book a little in the summary, but it's an okay book. Definitely not the best (Yara Flor/Wonder Woman) and definitely not the worst (Immortal Wonder Woman). It falls somewhere in between. Bennett gets readers to a final destination with closure, but the journey wasn't satisfying.
What's It About?
Aunty Kimara and her brood arrive as giant, flying, space eels, crashing through the moon's defensive bubble and snatching up Lynari. When kara intervenes, Aunty Kimara is surprised to discover a third Kryptonina still in existence, to which Kara seems to take offense by the look on her face.
The first down point of this title that continues all throughout this issue is Kara's incessant jealousy and resentment for Clark and Jon. This point in the timeline is many decades in the future (I guess?), and Bennett is determined to paint Kara as a bitter divorcee refusing to let go of the fact that her ex got a better deal in the divorce settlement and has a younger, prettier girlfriend. Life doesn't deal you the hand you want, and this characterization of Kara holding on to resentment for so long comes across as petty and immature.
Aunty Kimara takes up four pages of exposition in her best Ma Barker clipped English accent that Lynari "killed" her father by being weak, forcing Lynari's father to gift her the magic jewel at the expense of his own life. That's a really roundabout way of concluding somebody is a murderer, but sure, let's go with that.
Kara flies into action mode but Aunty Kimara does her best Boushh impersonation from Jabba's peace by pulling out a Quantum Detonator and threatening to blow up the Moon if she doesn't get her way. Imagining the devastation it would cause, Kara cycles through all the pent up anger and resentment she has towards usurpers and villains that would steal everything she's built. For some reason, Kara lumps Clark and Jon into that category, and the Superman hate grows increasingly offputting.
Kara decides she's had enough and decides to unleash her power on the space eels, hinting that going full out may cause her to become a tyrant. Again, Bennett is painting Kara as a person holding on to deep resentment over not getting what she feels she was entitled to have. If that resentment is so strong as to drive Kara to become a tyrant, it makes you wonder if Kara was always a repressed villain.
Suddenly, Lynari takes Kara's hand to prevent her from going over to the Dark Side. Lynari absorbs Kara's power and fights Aunty Kimara solo. when Aunty refuses to leave in peace, despite being overwhelmed by Lynari's Kryptonian-enhanced power, Lynari destroys the jewel to burn out her own powers and Aunty Kimara's at the same time, stranding them as ordinary humanoids on the Moon.
What follows are four pages of peace, love, and friendship to end the issue.
A quick note about the art. It's very stylized and harshly bright in some panels. In some panels, it works. In others, it strains the eyes. The visual style must come into balance with enhancing and furthering the story. When the art is so bright it almost hurts your eyes, then it becomes a distraction rather than a help.
Bits and Pieces:
Future State: Kara Zor-El Superwoman #2 wraps up the Future State version of Kara Zor-El in a way that makes Kara sadder and pitiable more than the hero she's always been. The art oscillates between gorgeous and blinding, and the story, for better or worse, is done.

Si bien me parece genial que al final se haya superado esa trama sin sentido de Kara sintiéndose triste por no ser Superman. Sino reconociendo que ella es la única e inigualable Supergirl, y que ese es su nombre o su manto. Que los mantos no existen, y cada uno puede formar su propia persona, su propio superheroe, nombre de superheroe, alterego. Y que cada uno puede ser grandioso o grandiosa siendo uno mismo, sin querer ser otro. Y como ella al final acepto la luz y continuar ayudando a la gente. Todo esto fue un elemento acertado en el cómic.
Igualmente, el arte me parece bueno.
Sin embargo el cómic continua con la narrativa de poner a Supergirl en contra de su familia, de Superman, Superboy y el resto. Poniendo una historia innecesaria de hacer que estos se peleen y dejen de llevarse. A pesar de que Kara, Kal, Jon, Lois y el resto de su super-familia se han llevado muy bien a lo largo de los años, en décadas de desarrollo. Siendo una familia fuerte que lucha por el bienestar del otro, por resolver los problemas y tristezas que puedan vivir. Por ayudar a las personas, el planeta. Lo cuál incluso en el último run de Bendis en Action Comics fue visto. Donde permanecía la Kara alegre, jovial y optimista que todos conocemos y amamos. Luchando en familia y con sus amigos contra las amenazas que estas representaban para la superfamilia, el mundo. Incluso en el cómic de Superman of Metropolis, Kara y Jon hacen las paces y retoman su relación familiar y parece que trabajarán juntos en el futuro por defender al planeta y a cada uno.
PERO NO. Todo eso fue destrozado en este mini comic elseworld. Creí que al final acabarían con ese narrativa de Kara, Superman, Superboy alejándose de cada uno. Pero continuaron con esa historia, incluso con Kara llegando a fallecer sin su familia. E incluso llegando a fallecer sin sus amigos, sus parejas del pasado, como podría ser Brainiac 5, Mon-el y otros. Simplemente todos esos personajes que alguna vez fueron amigos/cercanos/amigas de Kara desaparecieron por siempre de su vida, así sin más. Eso y lo anterior realmente me entristeció de este cómic.
Regresa en parte el optimismo al final, pero continuando con la historia de Kara sin su familia y amigos. Incluso falleciendo sin ellos.
Bennet se ve que es una buena escritora en sus otros trabajos. Pero realmente deseo qué, en caso de que alguna vez vuelva a haber un cómic de Supergirl (mi superheroína favorita), Bennet no sea la escritora de esta. No entiende por completo al personaje, y se decidió por seguir la ruta oscura. Ojalá esto quede solamente como un mal recuerdo de un elseworld que se le ocurrió alguna vez a alguien en darlo luz verde. Y se respete su canon.

Pd: Regresa Sterling Gates, o Peter David, ustedes escriben muy bien a Supergirl, ustedes la entienden y conocen, saben lo importante que es su familia para Kara. Incluso Marc Andreyko escribió una mejor historia (divertida con su amigo/interés Znd'r y con su mascota Krypto). La cuál fue desachada luego por otra historia oscura de Kara, que medio mejoró al final de su último volumen. Solo espero que el siguiente o la siguiente escritora que tome el cómic de Supergirl conozca al personaje y respete su canon, lore.
Pd2: Y ojalá que si alguna vez Supergirl vuelve a tener un cómic en solitario o sus futuras apariciones, ella siga siendo la Kara esperanzadora, optimista y con grandes lazos con su familia, amistades y parejas. Ojalá se vaya al futuro con Brainiac5 y la Legión de Superheroes. Ellos eran geniales juntos, una pareja poderosa, inteligente y llena de esperanza.
Esto último más por qué los dos son mi ship xD jaja (junto con mi otro ship favorito: JayKara)
