Batman #101 Review and *SPOILERS*

Fallout

Written By: James Tynion IV
Art By: Guillem March, Tomeu Morey
Letters By: Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 20, 2020

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Well, we hit the 100 issue mark and the Joker War came to an end. Frankly, at least to me, it was an absolute eye sore. Tynion’s run with this book started out with so much promise and all it took was a single crossover to completely reset things for me. Instead of reveling in a new story and how much I’m enjoying it, I find myself wanting to get as far away from the Joker War storyline as possible. That being said, with all the things that happened which will continue to affect Bruce going forward, I’m certain that the Joker War will haunt this book for months and months. The question is whether that will create the opportunity to tell a new story with new circumstances for our main cast, or if it will drag the story down by trying to tie everything back to this one moment. I’m hoping that Tynion will give us some interesting stories now that he isn’t involved with a huge crossover event, but I’ve been burned before. Let’s just try to stay positive and hop into this new issue.

Metal Men #11 Review

With Your Powers Combined...... I Am Alloy!

Written By: Dan Didio, Shane Davis
Art By: Shane Davis, Jason Wright, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 20, 2020

The Metal Men has been a Maxi-Series that I've really enjoyed, not only for the amazing artwork, the cool callbacks to the original series but also... it's not every day you get a Metal Men comic that kicks a little ass, not to mention does something different with the characters. As our series is winding down though some of the aspects of the story are getting a bit convoluted with the Dark Multiverse tie its had since the beginning of the book and that's probably because the Dark Multiverse itself is pretty convoluted, but hopefully, as we get towards the end things will start to right themselves and we can end this series on a high note. Let's jump into this penultimate issue and check it out.

Teen Titans #46 Review

Titans Together

Written By: Robbie Thompson
Art By: Jesus Merino, Cam Smith, Hi-Fi, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 20, 2020

It's the penultimate issue of the Teen Titans and it's a bit of a weird feeling because while I haven't really enjoyed the series lately..... I love the Teen Titans and always want their book to be around. With that though, our heroes are going to close out their series by continuing their task of tracking down the villains that were formerly imprisoned by our heroes and who now are looking for revenge against our heroes and while doing that.... hopefully finding their former leader and the former Robin, Damian Wayne. Their task might get a little easier though because, at the end of the previous issue, it looked like Superboy would be joining their cause. Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Justice League #55 Review

Quest's End

Written By: Joshua Williamson
Art By: Robson Rocha, Daniel Henriques, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 20, 2020

Ever since this title became important again and just wasn't telling random "Tales of the Justice League" stories, I've been enjoying what we've been getting and really dig the idea of making a new Death Metal Justice League team for this tie-in. Pretty much, I just enjoy seeing our heroes win for a change, which never really happened in the lead up to Death Metal or even in the event itself and these tie-in issues are doing something interesting for the overall story. That being said, let's see if my optimism for this continues after this issue. Let's check it out.

Dark Nights: Death Metal: Robin King #1 Review

Yes, Father... I Shall Become A Robin

Written By: Peter J. Tomasi
Art By: Riley Rossmo, Ivan Plascencia, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $5.99
Release Date: October 20, 2020

Since this Death Metal story seems to want to feature the Robin King so much, even though he just comes off as padding to me to keep characters occupied in a ridiculous, over-the-top manner, it's obvious that we needed a tie-in to the event that features the little, psychopathic Bruce Wayne from the Dark Multiverse that just wants to kill all the heroes...... and somehow can. Let's jump into this oversized tie-in and see if this book can make me stop hating the Robin King. Let's check it out.

Aquaman #64 Review

Same Old Song and Dance

Writer: Kelly Sue DeConnick
Artist: Miguel Mendonca, Romulo Fajardo Jr. and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 21, 2020

If you have been enjoying Aquaman, I am sure you couldn't wait to get back to the wedding!  While I enjoyed Jordan Clark's two-part Jackson Hyde spotlight, it also had me chomping at the bit waiting to see what Kelly Sue had in store when she returned.  Unfortunatley, it felt like parts of the story were left behind to focus on Aquaman vs. Ocean Master.  Let's get into it...

Catwoman #26 Review

The Claws are Out

Writer: Ram V
Artist: Fernando Blanco, FCO Plascencia, and Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 21, 2020

Ram V did a good job giving fans a smart Selina who didn't mind getting her hands dirty while filling in during Joelle Jones' run on Catwoman, and that seems like his focus on his run as well.  After the Alleytown setup from the last issue, I was excited to get this story going, and while this issue doesn't disappoint, I think Ram needs to slow things down just a little bit to give fans a chance to catch their breath and enjoy the ride.  What am I getting on about?  Let's find out...

Batman: White Knight Presents: Harley Quinn #1 Review

My Babies and My Kids

Writer: Katana Collins and Sean Murphy
Artist: Matteo Scalera, Dave Stewart, and AndWorld Design
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: October 21, 2020

It's been a bit since Curse of the White Knight ended, and while I wasn't as hip on the sequel as I was the original, I have been looking forward to this book since DC Comics announced it.  I am a Harley fan, and I think she is one of the better characters in the White Knight Universe, so a solo side-story feels earned.  Plus, I want to see how Katana Collins writes these characters in this universe.  So, is this a good start?  Let's find out...
