Brian Michael Bendis is Leaving Superman - My Thoughts

It looks like Brian Michael Bendis is finishing up his Superman run and here are a few of my thoughts about it...

Harley Quinn: Make 'em Laugh #1 Review

Writer: Mark Russell
Artist: Laura Braga
Colorist: Luis Guerrero
Letterer: Marshall Dillon
Digital First Price: $0.99
Release Date: June 3rd, 2020

Even with the over saturation of Harley Quinn that we're seeing right now I still think the cartoon show on DC Universe is genius, and I loved Birds of Prey. So I thought... maybe I'll give her Digital First a try to review on Weird Science. It just came out, it's Russell and not Humphries, so maybe he's better at writing the character? Oh boy... I regret this decision.

The Flash #755 Review and *SPOILERS*

Edge of the Universe

Written By: Joshua Williamson
Art By: Rafa Sandoval, Jordi Tarragona, Arif Prianto
Letters By: Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 9, 2020

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Our first story arc of the renumbered Flash comic has been kind of a drag. Long fans of the series watched several different story beats dropped in an effort to make things more accessible for new fans and we were all introduced to a new villain whose entire story has been somewhere on the spectrum of Basic to Boring. The only times that life has been breathed into this arc is when Reverse-Flash was inserted into the story immediately adding stakes. Unfortunately, we immediately dropped the ball in the previous issue by making an issue in which we threw away all of the interest that we had for predictable storytelling. However, as this story nears its’ end, hope springs anew that the following story will be one that we can really sink our teeth into. However, let’s jump into this issue first and see where it takes us.

Justice League #46 Review

The Spectre Is Right

Written By: Robert Venditti
Art By: Xermanico, Robson Rocha, Daniel Henriques, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 9, 2020

With the Spectre loose and unbound by a human soul, it seems that the old Spirit of Vengeance is kind of making everyone go a little crazy with hate and if the Justice League don't breach the shores of Themyscira to get to the gates of Tartarus to find Jim Corrigan, things aren't just going to get a whole lot worse.  Too bad this means breaking the rules of "No Men On Paradise Island" because as we saw from the end of the last issue, it looks like Wonder Woman and the rest of the Justice League is going to have to fight there way through an army of Amazons to continue their quest to save the world.  Let's jump into this issue and see if our heroes' bogus journey lands them a big W in the end.  Let's check it out.

Batman: Secret Files #3 Review

Release Date: June 10, 2020

These Secret Files books always strike me as a way to slip in an extra Batman Annual every so often, and since Batman sells, I can't blame DC for doing it. Plus, it's usually a chance for some different writers to get a crack at Batman. So, how is this issue of Secret Files? Let's find out...

It's time for another Anniversary issue and boy is it a doozy, what with it being the Clown Prince of Crime's big Eight-Zero.  That's right boys and girls, the Joker has been not only been causing the Batman problems for the better part of a century, but he's been captivating us by being one of the most iconic villains to ever come out of the comic book medium.  Let's celebrate this icon of DC Comics the way we usually do with one of these Super Spectaculars, by checking out ten short stories by various creative teams that are paying tribute to the man of the hour.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Batman #92 Review and *SPOILERS*

How the **** Do Crosswords Work?

Written By: James Tynion IV
Art By: Guillem March, Tomeu Morey
Letters By: Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 9, 2020

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It’s been a while since we got a great issue from the main Batman title. The state of the world wouldn’t allow it but now it has finally returned to us and frankly, I’m excited. Tynion’s run is still in its’ infancy and it has started off fairly well. Granted the first few issues were just a little above average but the previous issue was very well done and I can only hope that this issue carries that forward rather than regressing. For those that don’t remember, we are in the middle of a crisis in Gotham as Batman has just captured Deathstroke but now finds himself inside of another one of Riddler’s games. To top it all off, the Designer is executing a plan of his own, and Joker is doing plenty of things behind the scenes. So what will happen in this new issue? Let’s jump into this new issue and see where it takes us.

Lois Lane #11 Review

Transference Is The Name Of The Game

Written By: Greg Rucka

Art By: Mike Perkins, Andy Troy, Simon Bowland
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 9, 2020

We've hit the penultimate issue of Lois Lane and our journey throughout this max-series has been a strange one, with the stories changing from one thing to another, but most recently we've been dealing with the idea that the Multiverse is converging together, making reality and memories leak into each other, but we've also been dealing with an assassin who's been hired to kill Lois Lane.  In the previous issue, the Kiss of Death had Lois dead to rights, before Lois' team teleported the killer away and transferred Sister Clarice to where Lois was, while bringing the skull-faced, gun-toting murderer right to Renee Montoya and Jessica Midnight.  Sadly though, the Kiss of Death was already firing her gun, causing Renee to get shot once the spell was complete.  Let's jump into this issue and learn the fate of our favorite faceless female vigilante.  Let's check it out.

Harley Quinn #73 Review

Limbo Writing (How Low Can You Go)

Writer: Sam Humphries
Artist: Sami Basri
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 10, 2020

I have not been on the Sam Humphries bandwagon since he started this run of Harley Quinn.  Sure, he made things personal and emotional when Harley's mother passed, and while I didn't expect her to get over it quickly, Humphries hasn't either.  This book has been filled with underdeveloped characters and stories since, and this current one is no different.  Maybe things will improve now that Harley has seemingly found her best friend's killer, right?  Let's jump in a find out...

Nightwing #71 Review

All Alone in the Moonlight

Writer: Dan Jurgens
Artist: Ronan Cliquet, Travis Moore
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 10, 2020

What does DC Comics plan on doing with Dick Grayson.  I think we can all agree that this "Ric" thing has gone on way too long, right?  I  figured it would last a couple of months, and we'd get the proper Nightwing back, and all would be well.  Boy, was I wrong! Two years later and Ric is still hanging around like that college buddy on the couch, and we all hate that guy too!  But wait, Joker ended the last issue finding the Memory Crystal, so there is hope after all.  Listen, I know it's Joker, but I'll take anything new out of this mess of a book.  So, do we finally see a little light at the end of the tunnel?  Let's find out...

Amethyst #3 Review

Not Quite a Gem

Writer: Amy Reeder
Artist: Amy Reeder, Marissa Louise, and Gabriella Downie
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: June 10, 2020

I am worried the shutdown will kill any momentum this book had through its first two issues.  I know it wasn't selling well, but I've liked it, and it is a quirky side-title that has some charm and Amy Reeder art, which I love.  I guess we will have to wait and see and hope for the best.  So, how is issue #3?  Let's find out...
