There are three issues left in the Damage series, which no matter what way you cut it, at this point has to considered a failure at least on some level, with the New Heroes titles not gaining much traction. Anyway, I've invested this much time into the series, I might as well see it through right? Last time we left our 'hero' Ethan he was dropped on Monster Rock by Batman, and running out of time on the clock as Damage, so lets jump in here and see where that gets us.

I'd love to be the one to break the news to everyone and say this is the issue that gives the Damage series a sense of purpose, but literally three quarters of this book has next to no dialogue, and is mostly just one giant monster fight.  Damage starts the issue fighting a Dragon, before their fight is interrupted by a giant King Kong type monster, who then quickly smacks Damage away. That alone takes up fourteen pages of a twenty-two page comic book.

When Ethan wakes up he finds himself being treated to a meal over an open fire, seemingly rescued by a gentlemen named Congo Bill. C.B. fills Ethan in on the finer details of where he is exactly while giving him a loose background on some of the 'rules' around these parts. This is where the new conflict for Ethan begins to stem, as it's revealed by issues end Congo Bill isn't exactly thrilled by Ethans presence here on the island, and also seemingly in control of the King Kong ape we saw earlier in the issue smack Damage.

That's all we get for this month's issue of Damage and despite some great looking art throughout the issue it feels like the people responsible for generating ideas for this title checked out a long long time ago.  I almost thought I was given an early preview copy without text to review here because there's so little dialogue throughout so much of the beginning of this book.   Anyway, unless this is something you've wholeheartedly invested in seeing all the way through, I wouldn't advise anybody actually spend money at the moment to jump in and pick this up.

Bits and Pieces:

This maybe the shortest review I've ever written, mostly because the content provided here is paper thin until page fourteen on this issue. Damage issue fourteen may possibly be attempting to make history as the quickest comic book reading experience going. It just seems like with the exception of art duties the creative arm responsible for a story forgot to do their homework.
