The CW’s “Elseworlds” Crossover Gets the DC Comic Book Treatment

While there’s a lot we still don’t know about this year’s DCTV crossover event, “Elseworlds,” one thing readers are pretty clear on is what that title is a reference to. “Elseworlds” is the name of a popular line of comics from DC’s past that completely reimagined the worlds of DC’s greatest heroes. It’s a part of the company’s legacy, something that’s nodded to in a unique new image that’s promoting the three-night event.

First Look at DC Ink Title 'Teen Titans: Raven'

Teen Titans: Raven by Kami Garcia, illustrated by Gabriel Picolo

When a tragic accident takes the life of seventeen-year-old Raven Roth’s foster mom—and Raven’s memory—she moves to New Orleans to live with her foster mother’s family and finish her senior year of high school.

Starting over isn’t easy. Raven remembers how to solve math equations and make pasta, but she can’t remember her favorite song or who she was before the accident. When strange things start happening—impossible things—Raven starts to think it might be better not to know who she was in her previous life.

But as she grows closer to her foster sister, Max, her new friends, and Tommy Torres, a guy who accepts her for who she is now, Raven has to decide if she’s ready to face what’s buried…and the darkness building inside her.

Titans has been in this weird limbo when it comes to the DC Universe. The title was sucked into a bunch of storylines that were going on in other books and hasn’t been able to develop it’s own ongoing storylines. Due to this, my enjoyment of this book has declined dramatically. Ever since the No Justice crossover happened this book has been grasping for air and frankly, it’s becoming harder and harder to hold on. Our characters are stuck, our story jumps around sporadically based on whatever is happening in the DC Universe at that time. Let’s just hope that this issue takes a turn for us and that we can get back to a point where we really look forward to this book. Let’s jump into it.

The Flash #58 Review and *SPOILERS*

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

The Flash has been a bit… slow as of late. Don’t get me wrong, the comic isn’t bad but these new forces that have been thrown around and random plot points that haven’t been explained before are really bogging it down. Barry was told about going on a Force Quest but then it took us 4-5 issues for that to actually happen. Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t mind that if we had some more going on but it just hasn’t. However, for all of my complaints about this title, I still look forward to each new issue. Maybe I’m part of the problem. Anyway, let’s just jump into this title and see where it takes us.

Where we last left this book, Kara had just been dealing with the Green Lanterns after having found a secret message from a former guardian that revealed his role in a conspiracy to destroy Krypton. He turned out to be a member of The Circle and he has left a ton of messages around the universe in order to keep his secrets safe. He wants Supergirl to go and collect them so she can dismantle the Circle. The book has been fairly entertaining up to this point. It’s not perfect but few comics are. One thing, this book has succeeded in getting me excited for new issues. That’s more than a lot of books can say. Let’s just jump into this issue and see where it takes us.

Superman #5 Review

Nod If You Want Zod........ I Hope You're Nodding

Written By: Brian Michael Bendis
Art By: Ivan Reis, Joe Prado, Oclaire Albert, Alex Sinclair, Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

Superman has been a strange book for me since Brian Michael Bendis took over...... especially since we're getting more action here than we are in Action Comics, which I have been enjoying more.  With that though, I saw a glimpse in the previous issue that made me reconsider my stance though and made me realize just how good this title could be........ you know, aside from Rogol Zaar just wrecking house and Phantom Zone rules that I just don't agree with.  That aside though, I have hope and that hope will lead me into this issue, where we previously saw the Man of Steel strand himself in the Phantom Zone, while the Earth escaped thanks to the work of The Atom.  Let's jump into this issue and see if the good feelings continue.

Catwoman #5 Review

Pretty Thin, Riggs

Written by: Joelle Jones
Art by: Joelle Jones, Laura Allred, and Josh Reed
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

I have really enjoyed this book since it hit the shelf.  Yea, I think it took the reader and Jones a bit of time to separate it from the Batman series, but I am glad we have a solo Catwoman book and I have settled down for the long haul.  With that, I understand why some don't like it as much as me, but I am too busy actually liking something to care that much.  Do I continue liking it this month?  Let's find out...

Electric Warriors #1 Review and Spoilers

Fun and Games

Written by: Steve Orlando

Art by: Travel Foreman
Colours by: Hi-Fi
Letters by: Travis Lanham
Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

Well, I've been wanting something like this for a while. For too long, the Rebirth of DC has seemed to me to have a fairly narrow focus on a relatively small core of characters and the more obscure corners of the DC Universe have remained unexplored. But, no longer! Unlike the Electric Warrior title of the late 80s, Electric Warriors is in continuity and might end up bridging the gap between the DC Universe of the present and its curiously Legion of Superheroes-empty far future. Crikey! Buckle up, pilgrims. It's going to be a bumpy ride…

Detective Comics #992 Review

Two for Hack(ing)

Written by: James Robinson
Art by: Carmine Di Giandomenico, Ivan Plascencia, and Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

While some are waiting patiently for Peter Tomasi to start his run on Detective, I was actually looking forward to this James Robinson story.  I love Two-Face and liked how it all started off, but boy, it's gone downhill since that first issue.  Still, if you listen to our podcast, you'll already know how much I loved "Rootin'-Tootin'" Two-Face at the end of last issue!  Comedy gold that was!  Well, do we get some more laughs this week and does this story pick up the pace and give us all something to smile about?  Let's find out...

Red Hood and the Outlaws #28 Review

An Apple A Day Will Keep Death Away

Written By: Scott Lobdell
Art By: Pete Woods, Rex Lokus, Troy Peteri
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

Red Hood is all on his own, still tracking down the Underlife that Roy pointed him towards before he had to go to Sanctuary and break all our hearts by dying.  With that, we saw in the last issue that Jason Todd had found himself in a quaint little town and if you're a fan of horror stories...... Well, you know not to trust quaint little towns.  Let's jump into this issue and see what horrors this town hides and how it has to do with the Underlife.  Let's check it out.

Hawkman #6 Review

Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back To The Microverse

Written By: Robert Venditti
Art By: Bryan Hitch, Jeremiah Skipper, Starkings & Comicraft
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

It's time to continue our quest to unlock the mysteries of Hawkman and what his connection to these so-called Deathbringers are and while we do that, we'll also see the continued team up of Hawkman and The Atom to get all those old fans of the characters salivating at bit.  This has been a pretty run of the mill series so far that has just been getting a bit stale as of late, since we're just doing the same thing over and over again, but this is our sixth issue so hopefully things will pick up here and everything up to this point will seem worthwhile.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Wonder Woman #58 Review

Wanting More

Written by: G Willow Wilson

I couldn't wait for this issue since it was first announced that G Willow Wilson was jumping on the series.  I am a huge fan and really, it's about time I look forward to an issue of Wonder Woman for once.  So, how was Wilson's debut?  Let's find out...

Mister Miracle #12 Review

The End?

Written by: Tom King
Art by: Mitch Gerads, and Clayton Cowles
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 14, 2018

Mister Miracle comes to an end and while a have received a lot of shit for not liking every issue of this series, my main problem has always been reviewing it as individual issues.  I've repeatedly said in my reviews and on our podcast that the nature of the book and the mysteries that seem to be going on throughout the series have kept me from saying it's an instant classic like most other reviewers, but that could all change with the last issue.  Well, here is the last issue and the question is, does Tom King stick the landing and answer the ton of questions that he has thrown out there?  Let's find out...
