Writer: Ben Bates and Dustin Weaver
Artist: Ben Bates
Publisher: IDW Publishing
Release Date: August 1, 2018
Cover Price: $3.99
Review By: Lord Andy

I’ll admit I’m a sucker for road trip stories. Classics like Oliver and Hal hitting the road to see the real America, etc. But when I pick up the first issue of B&R Hit the Road, I'm more reminded of Lloyd and Harry or Beavis and Butthead, and I love it!

Teen Titans Go! #58 Review

Lights! Camera! Action!

Written by: Sholly Fisch
Art by: Jeremy Lawson and Wes Abbott
Cover Price: $0.99
Release Date:  August 2, 2018

I have fallen behind with Teen Titans Go! but with the movie out and the fact it's always an easy jump in book, I decided to get it, read it and of course, review it.  I couldn't have picked a better time to do just that and whether you are a long-time reader of the comic, television show or just saw the movie, there really is something here for everyone.

Mister Miracle #10 Review - Second Opinion

Darkpressing

Writer: Tom King
Artist: Mitch Gerads and Nick Derrington
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 1, 2018

Well, we talked about accentuating the positive here at the Weird Science Studio and when it comes to Mister Miracle that meant me stepping away from it a bit.  Yes, if you read this week's review of the latest issue, that was not me, but DispatchDCU's review.  I am writing this one, not because his review was bad, in fact, I think that it is a great review, I am writing this because I couldn't stay away.  Seeing all the 10/10s drop on comincbookroundup not only drove me insane (the idea of a perfect issue is a discussion for another day), but made me see the need for another point of view.  I will never say my scores are the "right ones", but I can sure as hell say they are honest.  No faking the Funky Flashman here!  So, here we go...

Today we say Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen to Shade the Changing Woman.

Light spoilers to follow... I've done my best not to "give it all away".  Still, be warned though!

The Unexpected #3 Review and Spoilers

Monster Valley Blues

Written by: Steve Orlando

Art by: Cary Nord and Mark Farmer with Scott Hanna
Letters by: Carlos M Mangual
Colors by: Jeromy Cox
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 1, 2018

I liked the first issue of this New Age of Heroes title, but the moment Steve Orlando has to start explaining things is the moment nonsense begins to swarm like flies on a dog turd and so it proved last issue which, shorn of original artist Ryan Sook's vibrant visuals, was nowhere near as entertaining. Orlando's penchant for throwing in obscure continuity references into his stories is quickly becoming legendary in these parts. Will Orlando manage to restrain this instinct and tell a coherent story? You know the drill…

Adventures of the Super Sons #1 Review

Writer: Peter J. Tomasi
Art team: Carlo Barberi, Art Thibert, Protobunker, and Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 1, 2018
Reviewed by: Jon Wayne

Full disclosure: I’m a huge fan of the Super Sons. The dynamic between Jon Kent and Damian Wayne written by Peter J. Tomasi in the previous series was always so amazing that it quickly became one of my favorite books DC put out. I was upset when it DC canceled that series for many reasons, but chief among them was that I thought the book had finally hit its stride. Early on in that series Jon and Damian were often clashing, more partners than friends. Yet over the course of those 16 issues, they grew closer through their shared exploits and, despite Damian’s resistance, clearly became best friends by the end. I was also one of the many livid fans online that beat up on DC until they announced we were getting a new Super Sons maxiseries, and now here we are at issue #1. My good friend, and Weird Science editor-in-chief, Jim Werner knows how much I love this duo and offered to let me review this book for the site. I accepted instantly and could not be more thrilled to be doing so. Without further adieu, let’s dive in!

The Road So Far....

Written By: James Tynion IV

Lex Luthor has taken over the body of Superman, Joker has taken over the body of Martian Manhunter and the Still Force and Ultra Violet Spectrum have become fully charged......... Yeah, it seems like our heroes are royally screwed and with this issue feeling like a throwback to Villain's Month back in 2013, it seems DC themselves want us to feel that way.  Let's jump into this issue and see if we can gleam any of the answers we so desperately want out of this series when we take a look at what started Lex Luthor on his path to DOOM.  Let's check it out.

Green Lanterns #52 Review

Ravaged By The Ravagers

Written By: Dan Jurgens

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: August 1, 2018

While I have been enjoying the background to this story, where we know that something is up with the Green Lantern rings even though our storytellers haven't made it clear yet what that is, the main focus so far, where we have some long haired Fabio dude named Eon flying around with the Ravagers just kicking ass and taking names, while storms rage on Mogo.......... Yeah, I haven't been enjoying that so much.  Let's jump into this issue and hope that it all comes together and I can start enjoying Green Lanterns again.  Let's check it out.

“Cold Days” continues! The jury in the Mr. Freeze trial is hopelessly deadlocked because one man won’t vote guilty—and that man is Bruce Wayne. Freeze’s defense is that Batman used excessive force, making his arrest illegal, and Bruce is the one man who actually knows for sure what went down between Batman and his ice-cold nemesis. And if Bruce is right, that means everything he’s devoted himself to as the Caped Crusader is a lie; he is hurting more than helping. With Dick Grayson putting the Batsuit back on to keep Gotham City safe while Bruce is sequestered, could this be the out Bruce needs to discard the cape and cowl forever?

The Eisner Award-nominated team of Tom King and Lee Weeks reexamine the relationship between hero and foe, as Batman relives not just that one violent night when he took down the King of Cold, but every time the two have come to blows.

X-23 #2 Review

Call of the Cuckoos

Writer: Mariko Tamaki
Artist: Juan Cabal
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Release Date: July 25, 2018
Cover Price: $3.99
Reviewed by: Jon Wayne

We left off at the end of X-23 #1 with the contrasts between Laura and Gabby and the Stepford Sisters being clearly laid out. Where Logan’s two best kids have been faced with adversity and come out better and stronger for it, the same cannot be said about the Cuckoo sisters. They too have dealt with setbacks, but that has led them to be more self-preserving. They lack the care for others embodied by our heroes, and to me, that is the chief difference between the two sets of sisters so far. The last issue ended as one of those two sickly sisters killing the other and taking a shot of Weapon X… So what happens next?

Sentry #2 Review

Here we are, issue two of Jeff Lemire's Sentry run and it appeared that the direction this book was taking was rather obvious, our ticking clock and mystery villain were setting us up for an entertaining if a rather predictable journey.
