Analog #2 Review

NSA OK

Written by: Gerry Duggan
Art by: David O'Sullivan
Colors by: Jordie Bellaire
Letters by: Joe Sabino
Publisher: Image Comics

The first issue in this series gave us an interesting story, a great concept, and although set in the near future I was impressed with the tough-guy gumshoe feel about it. The central character Jack McGinnis impressed me and he carried with him a real 1940s Noir, slick dialogue wit that added a really fun element to the book.

Isola #2 Review

Isola-ti-do!

The last issue of Isola was a very interesting installment. The first part of the book had very little dialogue, letting the book's fantastic artwork conduct the process of unraveling a mysterious tale.  By the end of that issue, we had gleaned that the Queen of Maar was suffering under the effects of an evil spell and assuming the shape of a Tiger while being stewarded by Captain Rook. Let's see how the pairing got on in this second installment.

Youngblood #11 Review

Because I'm Appy

I felt that the last issue of Youngblood had to do a lot of groundwork aimed at setting up the next few issues in the series. The crux of the last issue (and the previous issues) was that after being run out of the US the Youngblood initiative was given a new home by the Japanese government who wanted to give state sanction to the Youngblood team. This issue picks up on that fresh start with official Government backing in Japan. Let's see how the team get on, and more importantly, find out how the news goes down with President Diehard back in the US!

Chris and Reggie's Cosmic Treadmill ep. 89 - Uncle Scrooge #1 (1952)

Dive Around in this Episode Like a Porpoise

Ye cats, comic enthusiasts! This week, vocal bumblers Chris (@AceComics) and Reggie (@reggiereggie) tackle the elephant-sized duck in the room when they read Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge #1 from 1952, written, drawn, and lettered by Carl Barks! After some biographical info about Barks, Disney, and Ducks, they go through the entire oversized issue, detailing Uncle Scrooge McDuck's first comic book appearance. Then, while capping off the monumental life of Carl Barks, they try to untangle the complex working of Disney comics--and name some of the colorful folks that got involved in licensing along the way! It's an episode that fans of Walt Disney and comics history won't want to miss!

Luxurious Variant

Okay, I am sold on the new dressing DC Comics is using for variant covers. It allows these images to breathe and let craft speak for itself. What's funny is that the current crop are clearly designed with that logo in the sky; I can't wait to see these covers when they're made with the variant cover look in mind!

The Wild Storm: Michael Cray #7 Review and Spoilers

Murky Magic Machinations

Written by Bryan Hill with Warren Ellis
Art by: N Steven Harris and Dexter Vines
Colours by: Ross Campbell
Letters by: Simon Bowland
Price: $3.99
Release Date: May 9, 2018

It's Michael Cray time! A combination of work stress and having to read Hanna-Barbera comics for a while has, quite honestly, made me more than a little desperate for this book. Which is kind of ironic, because a couple of months ago I'd more or less given up on it. What a difference a single issue can make! Bryan Hill's decision last time to bring to the foreground the mystery of our titular hero's tumour did enough to hook me back into this series that had been threatening to sink under the weight of a story structure that was formulaic and predictable. Now, though, with the introduction of the Wild Storm universe's John Constantine and a sense of things spinning out of Cray's (and Christine Trelane's) control, all bets are off. Who knows what might happen this issue? There is, as they say, only one way to find out…

Let me tell you, this tale of North Korean oppression and Chinese diplomacy has taken a new cast, what with the Presidents of North and South Korea meeting and starting some kind of meaningful dialogue—the first such dialogue in more than sixty years! As a show of good faith, South Korea dismantled its gigantic speakers that used to blare propaganda about the good times down South, and North Korea has…advanced its clocks a half hour to be in line with their democratic neighbors? I mean, why bother changing the time a mere thirty minutes? It’s not like the citizens of North Korea would know the difference. They should be looking at a clock face of chickens and beans in place of numbers. Anyhoo, none of that is relevant in the story as presented in New Super-Man and the Justice League of China #23, and you can read my review of it right here!

If the Darkstars achieved their goal of eliminating violent crime, do you think they’d all have to look for new jobs? I’d think any QA department for most manufactured goods would suit them well, and they’d probably make good high school principals too. The rest of them could be welders, since they’ve got the helmets for it. Please enjoy my review of Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps #44, right here!

Let's continue on with the saga of what I'm calling Smarty-Pants Bizarro hope to whatever deity you want to believe in that we can glimpse some kind of ending coming our way because even though I love Bizarro.......... and pretty much anything Outlaw related, this story has gone on way too long and has left so many dangling plot threads that I need to have some kind of closure on.  Hopefully, that all begins here.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Bizarro is still juicing on synth K and if Red Hood has gotten Ma Gunn's letter.  Let's check it out.

Batgirl and the Birds of Prey #22 Review

Fly, Fly Away

Written By: Julie Benson, Shawna Benson
Art By: Roge Antonio, Marcelo Maiolo, Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: May 9, 2018

It's the final issue of Birds of Prey and while I can't say that I'm sad about this, I can say that there were a few moments in this run that were fun and were some of the best portrayals of Batgirl that we've had during Rebirth.  That being said though, this seems like it will be a mostly forgettable run, but we still have this issue left and hopefully, this will make this run one worth remembering.  In our previous issue, we saw the Birds of Prey and friends battling Calculator and his crew so that the information broker could find out who Oracle is and with Blackbird's power of mind control, he just might find out because Huntress became their hostage.  Let's jump into this final issue and see how everything ends up.  Let's check it out.

We'll get ourselves a team change up and that always gets me excited.  As for the story so far...... Well, after our heroes went and saved the Universe from the Dark Multiverse, they went and accidentally cracked open the Source Wall and because you can pretty much say that anything can happen with that taking place, we're getting our heroes going up against the biggest threat they've ever faced in the form of the cosmic Omega Titans.  Let's jump into this issue and see if all the hype was worth it.  Let's check it out.
