To say this Force Quest storyline has been a bit slow is being kind. For a book about the fastest man alive, this thing is moving at a snail’s pace. The Flash has been running around the world on his force quest but hasn’t really been doing anything (other than the usual hero antics). Now the Flash finds himself in Corto Maltese fighting with yet another Strength Force user. At least we are directly working with the actual forces at this point, all the while Gemini continues to hunt the Flash. Let’s just jump right in and see where this issue takes us.

We start our issue back in Africa on a train. Gemini has taken over the train and are enjoying the luxurious travel as their hostages are bound up and on the ground. They have found evidence of where The Flash is going so they are traveling to that location in hopes of catching him when he arrives. However, I must stop the review in order to point something out at this point. Gemini proves in this section of the book that they are not able to teleport or use super speed and thus, it was impossible for them to get from the South China Sea to the Congo right after the Flash in the previous issue. I was withholding judgement until I was informed of how they were able to get around but this proves there was no rhyme or reason.

Meanwhile, back in Corto Maltese, Flash faces off with Fuerza. He tries to explain that he is on her side but he goes too fast and she is unable to respond to him. Fearing that he is a threat, she strikes him. Iris tries to reason with the police but they do not want to listen to her. The police open fire on Fuerza but The Flash saves her. The leader of the cops then pulls his gun on Iris. Fuerza slams the ground causing them all to collapse. Flash runs in and makes sure the Iris is okay before the three of them flee the scene. After they leave, one member of the cops tells the leader that they cannot continue this way and he is met with a bullet. The leader then makes a call. After they are save, Flash talks with Fuerza and in an attempt to get her to help him, he reveals his secret identity to her.

Having no idea who Barry Allen is, Fuerza leaves but allows Flash to follow her to her home. After Barry drops some knowledge on how she got her powers, she agrees to work with him. Fuerza leads the two of them to her secret community that she carved out of a mountain. Lots of people live there and rely on her. Back in Central City, Commander Cold is investigating a new crime family with the help of Detective Burns. Turns out Burns has a thing for Cold as she fails to flirt with him during the investigation. It is revealed that the Tricksters are watching and waiting for their moment. Barry and Fuerza discuss their powers and how they use them before they get to work. Fuerza has to watch a medical transport to make sure the supplies go where they are headed. However, during the mission they find someone who was attacked and then there is an explosion at the mountain where Fuerza’s family is. The two run in, guns blazing against the Corto Maltese cops. However, this time the leader has a special gun that shoots bubbles. Those bubbles stick to Fuerza and then turn into monsters. The gun uses the Sage Force. This is where the issue ends.

This issue finally gets us in the right direction. While I am still scratching my head about the Gemini teleportation situation, the rest of the issue is really well done. They set up a main antagonist in a really quick and easy way. It is effective at making me hate this man. Then, we are introduced to Fuerza and told about her background and power set and her motivations. It was the perfect introduction to this character. It also helps that the art is really amazing. The cliffhanger has me excited to see what is happening next. This issue of Flash decided to really knock it out of the park and it has really needed it for a while now.

Bits and Pieces

Finally, the Flash decides to give us a really great issue. We get amazing character development, a proper introduction to a new villain, and some really incredible art. What more can you ask for? I’m happy to finally give this a great score instead of tearing this book apart.

8.5/10
