DC Comics Best Covers of the Week: December 19, 2018

Great Comic Book Covers Have No Deadline

I get around, round, get around, I get around, I get around, round, get around, I get around, I get around, round, get around, I get around, I get around, round, get around, I get around to it eventually.

 Batman Kings of Fear #5
Kelley Jones
I do not like this cover. In fact, I hate it. I added it to the list this week because I find it effective. It's definitely something that makes you do a double-take, like "is that Batman all made up of the heads of his villains?" But then you get a closer look, and it's far stupider than that. Hopefully, for DC's case, you'd bought the comic by that point. This will set the tone for the tenor of this "Best of" list.

 Nightwing #55 variant
Yasmine Putri
Here's a nicely composed cover. The rendering is a little off, however, and the proportions look weird. It would be a good cover to a pulp novel with lots of action. Hm? You think it should be a trashy romance? Whatever floats your boat.

 Teen Titans #25
Robson Rocha
I can't believe that this is third on the list of best covers this week. Not that it's bad at all, but it isn't really exemplary. The full-color character on the orange background is eye-catching, however, and of course I like seeing word balloons on a cover.

 Catwoman #6 variant
Stanley "Artgerm" Lau
Well well, what a surprise. Another "Artgerm" cover near the top of the list. I love this one, though, the very idea of Catwoman knocking out Santa Claus and taking his presents is delightful. I'll accept this on a set of Christmas cards for 2019, thank you very much DC Comics.

Catwoman #6
Joëlle Jones
Alright, I've been snapping on a lot of the covers on the list so far, but this one truly does stand out. It's almost like a crazy bit of stained glass, or something seen through a kaleidoscope. Catwoman's black costume plays off terrifically against the mult-colored background, and this cover is certainly worth multiple examinations. Great work here.
