Action Comics has been giving us a bit of the old slow burn when it comes to this secret syndicate, this invisible Illuminati, this concealed clique, but according to this issue's cover, it looks like we're finally going to get some forward momentum going in discovering who the Red Cloud is......... and hopefully once that's revealed, we'll get to the bottom of the rest.  Let's jump into this issue and see what Brian Michael Bendis gives us in this installment of Action Comics.

For this issue of Action Comics we start off with some really cool callbacks to things and people that we haven't seen in comics in a long time and it's pretty exciting, even though it doesn't last too long here and only seem to be used as a prop to get those old excitement juices flowing because after this initial bit........... Well, the issue gets kind of slow and doesn't do all that much.......... Yeah, you get a decent cliffhanger, but there's a whole lot of middle that fails to excite.

It's not bad per se, it's just that when you open an issue of Action Comics you expect a certain something........ like action and Brian Michael Bendis is using this series as a more Clark Kent focused series that is more about the Daily Planet bullpen and uncovering the truth behind things than actually giving us said action.  With that though we do see more of this secret syndicate, but because we really don't know much about them except that they're criminals that have been given food nick names, this doesn't do much for me and is making me wish that they were a tad less secretive.  

All in all, I really enjoy the art in this issue and the beginning and the end, but even the big cliffhanger that gives us our reveal of who Red Cloud is doesn't do much for me because there isn't enough to know with who it turns out to be...... it's just more exciting than most of the book.  So like I said, this issue isn't bad, it's just kind of lackluster in the information that it gives us and in the fact that you barely get any Superman in it at all.  Hopefully Action Comics can get more action-y as the series progresses because while I do love seeing heroes who have to hold down jobs, I can see why it isn't a main focus in most book because it can get kind of boring.

Bits and Pieces:

While you do get some decent reveals to some old things and some new things in this issue, the majority of the book was a bit of a bore as we continue to take the action out of Action Comics and focus on the day job of Clark Kent.  The art is great, but the story is getting a bit boring because of how secretive everything is being handled here.
