It's time for the second issue of Archie Meets Batman '66 and while I liked the first issue, I hope we get more of a melding of the two properties this time around. Yea, while I'm hoping it's Batman doing the Batusi at Pops, I'll take what I can get. So, do I get what I want? Let's find out...
We open the issue in the Batcave and after getting the call from Veronica, Batman puts his thinking cap on and decides to send Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon to Riverdale disguised as new students. Now that's what I'm talking about! Before seeing that in full effect, we go to Riverdale and continue to see that things are a bit weird with the adults in town...Mr. Weatherbee in Pops?!?!
We continue with Reggie pulling a classic prank on Archie which gets the attention of the Riddler who sees potential in young Mr. Mantle. Of course, all it takes is a little money and Reggie is fully onboard with the bad guys.
While this is going on, Batman (with Alfred) continue trying to find and capture Bookworm. I know that this will all tie together by the end, but I want more Riverdale and less Bookworm here. Still, we get a classic Batman monologue about what the Caped Crusader always tells Robin about being prepared before going back to Riverdale.
That's where we get the start of what should be really fun...Dick and Barbara show up for class! All eyes are on the two, including the villains who are kind of like creepy peepers in this issue. The issue ends with a purr-fect new teacher coming to Riverdale and the Joker picking a test subject to figure out why their big plan isn't going as well as they hoped.
While we do get the setup of the melding I want, we are going to have to wait until next issue to see it bear its fruits. Still, I had a lot of fun reading this issue and Jeff Parker and Michael Moreci really do nail the voices of each character. They are making sure to include a slew of Riverdale's most famous and I can't wait to see the sparks fly when the gals all fall for Dick Grayson and the guys do the same for Barbara. Maybe even a little mix and match? Who knows!
The art also continues to be outstanding. Everything looks great and there is no reason why fans of either property would think bad of anything on the page.
Bits and Pieces:
Things are heating up and by that I mean I am having a lot of fun with this series. The best part? Things are about to get even more fun as the two properties collide head-on from here on out. If you are looking for a fun, quick all-ages read with outstanding art, look no further!
8.5/10
