A Meta Of Utter Malice
Art By: Brandon Peterson, Ivan Plascencia, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: July 11, 2018
The Titans have returned and they're trying to clean up the Justice League's mess after Metal, where they went and broke the Source Wall. With that, we have Source Wall energy raining down on Earth constantly and making metas, which our Titans then have to contain. Hopefully, the book becomes more than just our meta of the month, where Nightwing and Miss Martian bicker during the fight because I could see that getting real old, real fast. Let's jump into this issue and see what we get. Let's check it out.
So yeah, a lot of bickering between Nightwing and Miss Martian, while we get a rundown of our Titans team, like who they are and what they can do, while they track down a "emergent threat". That's about all we get out of this issue and initially when it was announced that the Titans were coming back with a new team, I was happy as hell because I thought that a shake up could really help out a book that I thought was getting pretty stale. Yeah, I'm a dummy because what we get here is pretty damn boring. Hopefully, this is just the initial jitters of writing for a new team dynamic and a new situation, but if this is what we're going to keep getting out this book you can count me out because it was just devoid of fun........ even though it was constantly trying to force the situation.
Overall, the art in this issue is okay, not something that I loved, but it was serviceable and did its job, but the story was just really weak in my mind and made me wish that the Titans would have just stayed away because this iteration of the group is just not doing it for me right now. Hopefully, that changes as the book gets its footing, but this first outing was something that I could seriously have done without.
Bits and Pieces:
This first outing for our new Titans team left a lot to be desired. Where we could have had fun, we had death, where we could have had teamwork, we had bickering. It's like the series is going out of its way to be dull and I'm sad to say that maybe this iteration of the Titans just isn't for me. Hopefully that changes as the series progresses, but this issue just didn't do it for me at all.
5.1/10
Beast Boy, Raven, Natasha, Miss Martian please go away you wreck the book.
ReplyDeletePreach! First the Justice League act possessively and unfairly toward the Titans and now this. No chemistry, no vision, no nothing.
DeleteThis wasn't 5, but it's not that great either. There really no reason Donna should be this lethal, Miss Martian is out of character from pre flashpoint, she was super kind weirdo. Not a super critical boss like character. I actually think this Beast Boy is really an improved since his last run on titans.
