It's time to get back to Green Lanterns, where after all this time we're finally going to get some insight to what made Jessica Cruz so full of fear and anxiety that the Power Ring originally sought her out.  Yeah, we know that her friends were killed when they were out camping, but the question here is.......... by who?  Last issue we saw Singularity Jain try and make a deal with Jessica Cruz so that she could finally get past her mental block and discover this hidden secret and by the end of that issue, it seems that Jessica took the deal............. and for some reason that means that there's a black hole over her apartment.  Yeah, that part doesn't make much sense to me, but Singularity Jain hasn't really been all that fleshed out yet.  Let's jump into this issue and see what's up with our Green Lantern heroes and if we'll learn more about Jessica's secret and more about Singularity Jain.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with the Justice League creating a perimeter around Jessica's black hole apartment and Simon bringing in Singularity Jain so that the League can question her about what's going on.  Really though, we don't learn that much more about the villain besides for whatever she is, she's able to corrupt Wonder Woman's lasso.  With that avenue blocked off, it's time for John Constantine to come in and help.......... and I guess that means that this is somehow mystical, but it's never really clarified.  What is clarified though is that Simon is the only one who's able to enter this black hole and not be killed because Jessica subconsciously wants her partner to help her with this endeavor of discovering the truth.

As the Justice League try to figure out what's going on in Portland, within the black hole we discover that Jessica is reliving her hunting trip with her friends, but sadly, the only thing we really learn more about with this situation is that the friends she is with are two people that she's known from childhood and her ex-boyfriend, who is now dating her friend....... So yeah, it's a bit awkward and something that I could never deal with, but from what we get in this issue, Jessica is way more forgiving and understanding than I am....... or maybe that's just what we're meant to believe.

In the end, Simon enters the black hole in search of Jessica, but what he finds instead is all the bearers of the Power Ring who were trapped within it because they were too afraid to die, but what we learn from Harold Jordan, Earth-3's previous Power Ring is that the entity of Volthoom is no more and instead, this is now the realm of Jessica Cruz.  Pretty messed up.

That's it for this issue of Green Lanterns and while I would have liked to get something that would make me understand Singularity Jain some more or why Constantine seems to be the one best suited to help the Justice League in this scenario, I have to say that for what we're getting here, I'm really intrigued.  I've been waiting for awhile not only to learn about Jessica's past, but to see the reemergence of Power Ring and with what this issue is throwing down, it seems that we're getting something that could fundamentally change Jessica Cruz as we know her and that's exciting as hell.  I love the art in this issue and I can't wait to continue our journey into this arc.

Bits and Pieces:

While Singularity Jain is still a bit of a mystery with her powers and whatnot, what we get here is more than enough to make up for it because we're diving deep into Jessica Cruz and what we find out may change the character forever and man am I excited.  I really enjoyed the art in this issue and the characters involved and right now, this arc seems to be the most important thing we've done with our Green Lanterns since Rebirth began.

7/10
