We are inching our way towards the Trial of Oliver Queen and I have to be honest, that's what I really want to see. I am not sure if it will ever come to that, but a man can hope, right? Until then, we will continue to deal with all the heaped on stuff that Ben Percy has set up since the beginning of Rebirth and while some of it's interesting, a whole lot isn't. Personally, I will be so glad to leave the Ninth Circle and the Burned in the rearview mirror and get something fresh in this book. Does this issue begin the process? Let's find out...
The issue opens with Oliver stranded about 20,000 leagues below the sea, but it's the other stuff going on that I actually liked. Ben Percy gives us some quick peeks at the multiple other characters and storylines in the book to show us Merlyn is out and about, Kate Spencer is fighting an uphill battle, Mayor Domini has had enough of Broderick and Broderick has other issues to deal with. Of course, Henry and Dinah save Oliver, but that's when the real shit goes down this issue.
It's no surprise that Ollie has a messed up family and this issue points it out and then some! After getting kicked in the nuts by Dinah, we head to the worst family reunion...possibly ever. If you have been reading this series, you will know that a room with Oliver, Dinah, Emiko, Shado, and Merlyn is bound to cause a few sparks and it's all here. Arrows and insults are shot at everyone and while we don't get any major revelations, it's exciting and gruesome fun. Canary and Merlyn get wounded, but it's the final causality that has me most worried.
Besides the fight, we do get a little bit of story progression, but it's pretty much setup for the upcoming trial and really doesn't get very far. I wish there was more to talk about, but that's about it this month in Green Arrow.
This was a very fast read. The majority of the issue was dedicated to a long fight scene and while I usually want more story, this wasn't half bad. At least it was exciting and Juan Ferreyra's art was great as usual. I don't really expect much out of this book and maybe that's an attitude I should stick with because sometimes it surprises me.
Bits and Pieces:
Ben Percy puts the story on hold a bit to give readers a rescue and a fight. It's a quick read that is full of excitement and isn't half bad because of it. I wouldn't want every issue to be like this, but once in a while is fine.
6.9/10
Hey Jim! Nice review by the way! I think for me ill give it maybe a 7.0 or 7.5. Ive missed green arrow hahaha! Im sad to see they moved it to once a month now instead of bi monthly. Broderick is dead. Thank god, i mean this villain has gone on long enough for almost two years since rebirth. Bout time he died. However i see percy STILL havent moved forward on the ninth circle. Still likes to prove that the ninth circle can go toe to toe with snyder's court of owls, as he always have been on about ever since. Hahaha i remember he say all the time. Wow, i never realized moira queen is such a whore and a real freakin bitch. Still love juan ferreyra's art, but i love otto schmidt more, either artist is good. Still looking for your cameos in juan ferreyra's art by the way! Rock on weirdscience dudes!!
