When I heard Slayer(band) was releasing a comic, I was curious to what kind of story the creative team would tell. Slayer being a metal band, I figured things would get dark. This title was on my radar for it having to do with Slayer. I’m not going to fake the funk and say I’m a lifelong Slayer fan. Playing in bands and loving comics, I feel obligated to give these sort of titles a read.

Top 5 Fridays: Top 5 Characters I'd Like to see Replace Lobo in JLA

Welcome to another justice filled edition of Top 5 Fridays! This week we had the conclusion to the Suicide Squad vs Justice League event, paving the way for the Justice League of America Rebirth premiering in two weeks! I've been excited for a while now, especially with the lineup. The young Atom, ready to rise above like his mentor before him. Vixen, wielding the powers of the Red to fight evil. The Ray, shining hope like never before. Killer Frost, ready to prove herself to be a true hero. Batman and Canary guiding this team of heroes. And then there is Lobo... Just Lobo. Lobo... on a Justice League... They couldn't have thought of anyone else better? Well, I think I've compiled a few candidates that could fit better with this new team of heroes. Like Frost, I believe that the people on this list have a chance to redeem themselves or like The Atom, can prove how useful they can be for the greater good. As always this is an opinion based list, so if you see someone you don't like, I apologize. With that out of the way, let's take a look at the candidates for the newest team in the DCU.

Batman TMNT Adventures #3 Review

Batman TMNT Adventures #3

John Rauch, Zack Atkinson & Sean Galloway
DC Comics/IDW Publishing
Release Date: January 25, 2017

Does this Sewer have a V.I.P. area?

In a perfect crossover universe, villains of both earths would be civil to one another, sharing plans of world domination, finally able to come together and take down those pesky heroes once and for all.  However the characters in crossovers, much like people in real life, make bone headed decisions quite frequently. The end result, for even the most carefully laid plans of world domination, is never good for these lovable fellas and ladies and I for one would like to see that change.  So what do you think will Batman TMNT Adventures #4 be the first crossover to start breaking new ground? Probably not but let’s find out what happened anyway.

Future Quest #9 Review and *SPOILERS*

Future Quest Assemble!

Written By: Jeff Parker
Art By: Ron Randal
Cover Artist: Evan "Doc" Shaner
Color: Veronica Gandini
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

Well, it's been quite a while since anyone has covered the Hanna-Barbera World of Future Quest. I take full responsibility for that because this book needs to get covered more. The art is fantastic, the characters are interesting, the story makes it feel like a Saturday morning cartoon, and the action is just fun to see. If I had to say one of the Hanna-Barbera books were successful critically, I would say it's Future Quest.

So what has happened the during the last 2 issues? The team has split up on multiple fronts. Race, Agent Sumadi, and Linda Conroy went out to locate Dr. Quest who was kidnapped by Zin and F.E.A.R. However Zin is turned on by his organization, and with the help of Jezebel Jade, the pair plan to fight their way out of the F.E.A.R. HQ with Quest by their side. Meanwhile, Birdman has begun training the new Mightor as Omnikron finally pushes into our world. The pair pushed it back, following the interdimensional alien, and find the surviving Herculoids in the process. On the west coast of the country, The Impossibles try to contain an Omnikron as well, and by extension find Space Ghost(who is actually the lone survivor of the faux green lantern corps we saw in the prologue of the series), exhausted for fighting the beast since the beginning. During all of this, the kids(Jonny, Hadji, Buzz, and Jan) are left behind, only to get the distress signals from the Omnikron that the Impossibles are fighting. Buzz decides that they need to do something, and brings out the brain of Frankenstein jr.

Will the kids arrive in time to help? Is it the end of the world as we know it?! It's time to dive into the next exciting chapter of Future Quest!

This is probably PTSD speaking, having read that Night of the Monster Men trash over in the Bat-books, but this Justice League vs. Suicide Squad crossover hasn’t been all that terrible. I don’t know if I’d call it “essential,” but it’s got Max Lord, it’s got Eclipso, old school Lobo…I’ve been happy with it. So I welcome these tie-in issues of Suicide Squad, even though the other one was sort of disappointing. But second time’s a charm, right? Let’s find out in my review of Suicide Squad #10!

Command D

Written by: Dan Didio and Dan Abnett
Art by: Dale Eaglesham, Scott Koblish and Keith Giffen
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

I will not lie, I am not a Kamandi fan.  I'm not a hater either, I just don't care for the character at all. That's actually the main reason why I wanted to review this book.  I want to become a Kamandi fan.  Maybe then I'll get invited to all those fancy parties that Reggie and Chris throw.  You know the ones, where everyone is talking about comics while drinking  pinky up.  I'm getting ahead of myself, though, and I have to first see if I like what we get here.  Well, did I?  Let's find out...

Last issue ended with the Rogues looking all badass and all was right in the world.  There are few things that make me smile like the Rogues do and seeing them in all their glory was a real spirit lifter. So, I spent the last two weeks counting the days until this new issue was in my hands.  Well, here we are and while I read my comics digitally, we can all pretend it;s in my hands, right?  Now that we have agreed on that, was it worth the wait?  Let's find out...

Deathstroke #11 Review

Shot in the Dark

Written by: Christopher Priest
Art by: Denys Cowan, Bill Sienkiewicz, Jeromy Cox and Willie Shubert
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

It's Deathstroke time again and that usually means one of two things for me...pulling my hair out in frustration or nodding my head yes while smiling.  That's the problem with this book, there is no middle ground for me.  Last issue was the later as I really enjoyed what Christopher Priest was cooking, especially his explanations of both Rose and Jericho's powers.  Sure, there was some crazy street thugs straight outta Minnesota, but by the time Red Lion broke Slade out of jail, I was looking forward to this issue.  Now that it's here, is my hair intact?  Let's find out...

Odyssey of the Amazons #1 Review

Forever

Written by: Kevin Grevioux
Art by: Ryan Benjamin, Richard Friend, Tony Washington, Tony Avina and Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

I love Wonder Woman and everything about her.  Does that extend to the history of the Amazons?  Well, I can't say that I ever really thought of that.  Sure, I have read books where we get quick peeks at it all, but that is all about getting to Diana and the stuff I love.  This book (as far as I know) isn't heading that way and settling in on the pre-Diana history. Sounds intriguing and the mystery of it all has me pretty excited.  So, now that I've read it, is it any good?  Let's find out...

Action Comics #972 Review and *SPOILERS*

Who would have guessed that Lex Luthor would have to save Superman from anything, let alone a couple of intergalactic bounty hunters who are trying to save the future?  Yeah, they're really after Lex and Superman is doing his hero thing by standing in between them, but now that him and Lex have been boom tubed to a world with a red sun......... Well, our hero isn't exactly at his peak.  Let's jump into this issue and see not only if Lex and Superman are able to outgun and outwit L'Call and Zade, but also what's up with human Clark Kent seeing John in Lois' doppelganger's apartment.  Let's check it out.

Blue Beetle #5 Review and *SPOILERS*

Downtown Showdown

Written By: Keith Giffen
Art By: Scott Kolins, Romulo Fajardo Jr., Josh Reed
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: January 25, 2016

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

I have not been a fan of this series and mostly it's due to the constant back and forth quips and bickering that our characters are written as having.......... and because of the complete disregard of the New 52 continuity to this character..... but mostly the dialog.  I've seen issues of this where the dialog is so overwhelming that it overshadows the art completely....... and really, it didn't need to be there because we gained nothing from it.  Yeah, I'm a negative Nancy when it comes to this book because I really want to love it since I'm a fan of the character and even though I come into each issue with optimistic eyes, I leave wishing that we'd gotten a different book instead of Blue Beetle all together because I just simply don't want another Beetle series to fail.  In our previous issue, we saw Jaime being checked out by Teri Magnus and we discovered that the scarab had mutated Jaime's skeletal structure, but because Ted is keeping everything hush-hush, he doesn't tell Jaime.  Mostly though, we saw that Ted had a connection to the scarab before Jaime and him ever met.  Let's jump into this issue and see where our story goes from there.

Batman Beyond #4 Review and *SPOILERS*

Suit Up

Written By: Dan Jurgens
Art By: Pete Woods, Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

So much for Terry clowin' around.  That's right, even though we went through this whole scheme of dressing up as a Joker and creating a backstory so that our hero could infiltrate the Jokerz, it seems that it was all for not because within one issue of this, Terry's found out and we ended the last issue with him being strung upside down in front of a building, while the Jokerz below shot acid at him.  Luckily, we do have some other irons in the fire, with Matt McGinnis sneaking his way through Jokerz Town with a prototype Bat suit for his brother and we also found out that Bruce Wayne is alive........ and kind of well and that Terminal is making everyone believe that he's the Joker and that he's bringing him back to life so that he can keep the former Batman in a coma so that he can continue siphoning funds from the Wayne bank accounts........ I don't know what money means to anyone in a post Brother Eye invaded world or why the bank accounts are still active, but hey, I'll go with it as we jump into this issue and hopefully see Terry discovering that his mentor is alive and him getting back to being Batman, suit and all.  Let's check it out.

Detective Comics #949 Review

Written by: James Tynion and Marguerite Bennett
Art by: Ben Oliver, Szymon Kudranski, Gabe Eltaeb, and Marilyn Patrizio
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: January 25, 2017

I can't wait for the Batwoman book so of course, I couldn't wait for the Batwoman Begins story as well.  Unfortunately, I thought last issue had less Batwoman and more Monster Men and that's a recipe for disaster in my book.  However, I loved the bits we did get with Kate training to be Batwoman with her father, Jacob.  Of course, there was that Monster Men thing that pretty much stunk up the proceedings and brought it way down.  So, does this finale show us more Batwoman?  Let's find out...

Cover Price: $2.99

Release Date: January 25, 2017

SPINNING OUT OF THE PAGES OF JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD! What happens to a super-villain on their last day in Belle Reve Prison? Against all odds, Killer Frost is up for parole from the Suicide Squad, but you can bet Amanda Waller isn’t going to make it easy for Frost to join the new JLA.

The final one-shot before we get to our JLA series next month, but I hope that DC doesn't shove too much Killer Frost down our throats before we get it because while I really like the character, we've been getting a whole lot of her lately.  I have high hopes though.

“THE TRUTH” part one! Diana has finally seen the full scope of how her life and history have been transformed…unfortunately, the knowledge has driven her completely insane!

Yeah, our hero is insane and we've got a whole lot of shit going down.  Hopefully Steve Trevor, Etta Candy and Barbara Minerva can hold the fort down until we see our Amazon Princess get discharged from the loony bin.
