*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

In our previous issue of Batman Beyond we saw our future Dark Knight take on what is left of the Royal Flush gang before getting to an awesome cliffhanger, where it looks like Ace may have broke Terry's back Bane style.  Before all that though, it seems that we're getting into new territory with this series where not only do Terry and Matt move into Wayne Manor, but it also looks like Matt is doing his damnedest to become Robin Beyond.  Let's jump into this issue and see if Matt moves forward to getting his wish and if Terry is able to continue being Batman.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!

Our issue begins with our fears being instantly put to rest because the "old back breaker" won't work on the Batman Beyond suit and with that, Batman totally just destroys the Royal Flush Gang.  Too bad that they won't give us their employer, who sent them to acquire Batman, but maybe Terry will still get his chance to find out who it is because it seems that this mysterious person has also hired Stalker to get the job done.

While Terry is being followed by Stalker, someone breaks into Wayne Manor and steals a picture of Terry out of Matt's room and while this part doesn't really go anywhere in this story, it does setup a bit of intrigue continuing this series.  Back to Batman though, it seems that Terry should have been watching his back after the Royal Flush Gang fight because afterward he stops by Dana's apartment not knowing that Stalker........ was stalking him this whole time.

In the end, Stalker blows up Dana's apartment, kidnaps her and exploits Terry's weakness of caring for her.  As our issue closes, Terry gets Dana back, but Stalker has torn Batman's wings, leaving Batman and Dana in a free fall.

That's it for this issue of Batman Beyond and while there isn't anything really wrong with this issue, it's just pretty basic and doesn't bring a lot of excitement to the table.  Yeah, we have some cool things going on, but for whatever reason, the art, the writing, I don't know, it just doesn't have what feels like real impact by the time the issue ends.  I'm still not a fan of the art, but it does its job, but overall, this Batman Beyond series just feels stale, even with its new attempt to try and bridge the continuity of the animated series with the current DCU.

Bits and Pieces:

While Batman Beyond is pretty straight forward and offers a lot of action, by the end of the issue it just came off pretty underwhelming and feels stale in the long run.  Hopefully this changes as the series continues, but right now this title feels like a bore to read and the art isn't doing much for me either.  That being said, there's nothing really wrong with the issue.  It's just basic as all hell.

5.8/10

  2. Yeah, this is the same timeline, just with Terry coming back at the end of the previous series and taking back over for this one.
