*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

After our last issue where Jor-El revealed himself to Clark and told him about how shitty Earth is because of how bad it was when he was first flung to Earth after Krypton exploded, it seems that this father wants his son and his family to pack everything up and say farewell to their one-time home and start fresh.......... where everyone isn't so shitty.  Even if you haven't read a lot of Superman in your life, I'm sure you know it's going to take more than a depressing monologue to get the Man of Steel to give up on humanity so let's jump into this issue and see if Jor-El........ or Mr. Oz if you still prefer to call him that will step up his game to get his family to abandon Earth and all the shitty people on it.  Let's check it out.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with an agent of Oz convincing a man to go and shoot up the Daily Planet so that they can stop them from printing all their "fake news" and finally have them start talking about the real truth, but from this man's talk to Lois Lane, it seems that he's an agent of Oz as well and he believes that if he can start getting the world to understand the truth as Oz as told him, then maybe he'll take his devoted followers with him when he decides to leave this world......... Since we don't really know shit about the agents of Oz though besides for the fact that they whisper in people's ears and get them to do horrendous shit, I don't know what to make of this character and what he's doing.

While the Daily Planet is in distress, Superman leaves Jor-El at the fortress so that he can stop a country from firing chemical weapons at their rebellious people, but it seems like this is just a rehash of what we had two issues ago when Superman wasn't able to stop people from being terrible because even though our Man of Steel successfully neutralizes the missiles, it seems that the rebels have chemical weapons of their own and fire on the military.

In the end, after the terrorist at the Daily Planet thinks he's had Lois write the real truth on the Daily Planet's website, he plans on blowing himself and the building up, but he's stopped by what everyone thinks is Superman, but who turns out to be Jor-El, who wants to make sure his son's family is safe......... even though this was one of his agents, before exiting the Daily Planet to go talk to Superboy about how shitty it is to keep what you really are secret on this planet.  As our issue closes, it seems that Jor-El may have gotten Jon on his side after he shows him the world that he intends on taking his family to and Jon sees that everyone on this new planet has powers like him and he'd never have to hide who he truly was.

That's it for this issue of Action Comics and while some of this issue just seemed to be a rehash of what we've been getting with this arc, with people being terrible and Superman not being able to save them, the idea that Oz' agents are acting on their own now and that Jor-El seems to have gotten Superboy on his leaving Earth trolley actually gets me a little more intrigued with this story than I've previously been.  The art in this issue is great, but like I said, there's a lot of rehashing of elements that we've seen in the previous two issues to this arc that don't really do anything besides for fill up page space and get Superman out of the way so that Jor-El can meet his family.  Hopefully, things start coming together better in the next issue because while I'm into certain aspects of this issue, this arc so far as been kind of mediocre.

Bits and Pieces:

While we see Jor-El doing more to achieve his "We have to leave Earth because people are shitty" goals in this issue, a lot of what goes down here seems to be just a rehash of what we've seen previously in this arc.  With that though, the art in this issue is great and a new element to the agents of Oz was presented here and it gets me a bit more curious about what we'll see in the next coming issues.

6.5/10

  1. Lois is a horrible mom. Get Jonathan out of harms way first, then worry about gunman. I don't care if he is indestructible. be a concerned parent.

    1. I did not like jon this issue, in super sons he seems intelligent but hear he came off as a sucker. Between these books he isn't consistent, so if I have to choose a version that does the character a service it's super sons. Lois will always be a bad parent, that's never going to change because writers like superman with a huge anchor to carry like after a billion times of Lois getting in trouble she still puts herself being a reporter over her son(like this issue), and her husband (like getting caught be every villain that pops up in metropolis, and for the fact Lois should walk around with a gun and strat putting her army brat training into effect instead of relying on others to always save her.

  2. I think the Oz Effect is actually code for boring story telling ... can we get to the point here already, we continue to learn Nada! If Jon wasn't Superboy and just normal with Lois as his mother I don't think he'd of made it past 2.

  3. “Lois is a horrible mom” A more false statement I have never read. Lois Lane literally puts herself in the way of a gunman and her son, protecting Jon, sacrificing herself, and getting Jon out of the building. Lois offers herself up to protect Jon. Maybe you didn’t read the story or your WW & SM bias clouds your judgement on the situation, but Lois Lane is shown as the example of good people still around to help save humanity. Lois Lane didn’t just save Jon, she saved everyone in the Daily Planet, As was okay with the choice she made that the gunman wearing Suicide vest, could kill her at any second. That is a heroine and a good parent. Lois saved her son. Go get the facts right and read the comic before making an uneducated statement.

    1. I'm not sure how literal that comment is because the whole "Lois is a bad mom" thing has been a running joke narrative on the podcast since the beginning of Rebirth.

    2. Tejna must be new here ... also Lois' entire reason for doing so is because she thinks Superman is coming , like he did w deathstoke, not exactly the best reason to put yourself in front of a gun, if he pulls the trigger then what about ur kid?

    3. That's exactly my thinking branden, Lois didn't know if the gunman would or would not shoot her, but because she's to busy trying to play hero she neglects what she should do as a mother, which is to make sure her son gets out of the build. What would have happened if the gunman shot her in the face. Then what happens to your son, who would probably get mad and try to bum rush the shooter, putting himself in more harms way.

  5. Forget Metal, the real DC event is happening in Action Comics' The Oz Effect.

When Mr. Oz was first revealed to be Jor-El I must admit I did an eye roll, but as this story progresses it keeps drawing me more and more into the mystery. I realize this type of story has been done before. Someone trying to convince Big Blue that humans are undeserving of him has become a staple in Superman storytelling. I don't mind it though as it's my favorite kind of Superman story.

Reading the comments above I can see that this story isn't moving fast enough for some. Though I don't think that's due to bad storytelling, I think it's due to our instant gratification culture. Everyone wants their pizza pies Hot and Ready. I'd much rather take it slow and allow my appetite to be whetted.

To further address the comments above, I agree with Tejna and āļ„āļēāļŠิāđ‚āļ™āļāļāļ™āđ„āļĨāļ™์, Lois is a good Mom and Online Betting Sites is a game that will pass on the fun of all those who have chosen to bet online.

Finally I absolutely loved the art in this. It had a great mix of comic book and cartoon styles. As I've said many times, I love that type of art. Anyway it's a 7/10 for me.
