It looks like we're going to have to wait to find out what Volthoom's master plan is now that he's inhabiting Rami, the banished Guardian's body because first we have to deal with one of the repercussions of the Justice League Vs. Suicide Squad event and that's Dr. Polaris being out and about and possibly doing some damage......... which is kind of weird after having that big Volthoom backstory that went and fucked up so much of the Green Lantern continuity last issue, but I'm excited to see what Dr. Polaris has in store for our heroes and hopefully see them have the ability to take him down. Let's jump into this issue and check it out.
Explain It!:
Our issue begins with us finding out that Dr. Neil Emerson fights with the personality of Dr. Polaris all the time and while they simply call this Bipolar disorder, this actually seems to be more along the line of a split personality because Dr. Emerson seems to feel when he's going to become Polaris and wants to help his brother Seth with his cancer before that happens. Too bad that Harcourt, the new director of the Suicide Squad has other plans. While that's all going down, Simon's dealing with his brother-in-law Nazir, who out of nowhere is seeming to feel a bit butt-hurt about Simon's new career as a superhero because it seems like he's feeling a bit left out from how the two used to act around one another so it looks like one of our heroes and the villain of this story are dealing with some really personal shit concerning their family members.
In the end, after Harcourt blows it trying to get Dr. Polaris into custody, she calls the Justice League for help, who then send Simon and Jessica to take down Dr. Polaris. Only problem is, our heroes may be just a little too cocky to get the job done because Dr. Polaris isn't about to go down without a fight, especially since his brother's life hangs in the balance and as we leave this issue, Dr. Polaris wraps a bunch of cars around Simon and Jessica and sends them to the bottom of a river.
That's it for this issue of Green Lanterns and while this isn't a bad issue, there's just not a lot going on and is a fast ass read. Mostly, the only real thing to talk about this issue is the duality of Simon dealing with his family while Dr. Polaris is doing the same, but it doesn't really come through as all that similar since Nazir really seems jealous of Simon, while Dr. Polaris is actually dealing with some serious shit with the deteriorating health of his brother. I like this idea because while Dr. Polaris is a bad dude, he's trying his damnedest to do the right thing and save a life, while the superheroes are trying to stop him from doing that. Hopefully Simon and Jessica realize this and help him out so that they can possibly take him into custody without a shit ton of damage along the way. The art in this issue is great and while I like the idea of the story, I have to reiterate........ there's really not a lot going on here.
Bits and Pieces:
While this issue of Green Lanterns looks great, I have to say that this is one of the fastest reads you'll have this week and part of that is do to not a lot going on here. Yeah, we're setting things up a bit, but it just feels really basic for having this come in and stall us from our Volthoom story. Not a bad read, but I wish we had a little bit more going on here.
6.8/10
