DC Comics Best Covers of the Week 12/28/16

An Embarrassment of Variants

It's the day after the last New Comic Book Day of 2016, and you know what that means! It's the last Best Covers of the Week for the year! Although roughly eight-hundred comic books came out from DC Comics, I struggled to find five worthy of a coveted position on this list. But since the "best" of anything is a relative term, I eventually got it done. Take a look at the last winners before your attention is swayed by another celebrity death!

Action Comics #970 variant
Gary Frank and Brad Anderson
This is a nicely-composed cover that makes me curious to know about the story within. Superman breaking Lex Luthor out of prison? Or is he breaking in to hang out with him? Or maybe Superman is just flaunting his brute strength?

Titans #6 variant
Nick Bradshaw and Laura Martin
Here's a great image of a team springing into action. And look, even though the characters are in different poses, it all makes sense with the background. See that, 1990s Image Comics artists? Backgrounds matter!

Flash #13 variant
Dave Johnson
Who doesn't love this stylish, seasonal cover by the great Dave Johnson? I think I have next year's Christmas cards sorted with this one.

Batgirl #6 variant
Francis Manapul
Gotta hand it to this Gustav Kilmt-looking cover by the master Francis Manapul. I could see a poster size of this hanging on a few university dorm room walls this coming semester. Not that I will be seeing dorm rooms anytime soon.

All-Star Batman #5 variant
Jock
I have to say, the title is the thing hurting this cover image the most. This is like the most enticing poster for a movie that never was. If this is a taste of what to expect when Jock goes full-time on the title, I'm all in.
