Top 5 Fridays: Top 5 Teen Heroes in Comics
Welcome back to another exciting installment of Top 5 Fridays! When there's trouble, do you know who to call? Well yes in real life it would be the police, but in the DC universe, we would call the Teen Titans!! This week, our newest iteration of the Teen Titans has been revealed in their rebirth issue. While I can't say I'm the biggest fan of Damien Wayne, I am excited to see where this new team will go. This if you made me think of all the other teen heroes created in comics, so today will be going over my personal favorites. The rule of being in this list is that the character has to be physically a teenager(so Shazam won't be qualified) and have a series that doesn't have them grown up. As always this is an opinion based list, so if you don't see your favorite character, I apologize. Enough talk! Let's jump on in...
5: Kenan Kong
Let's kick this list off with our newest teenage hero in the DC universe. If you haven't picked up this series, do yourself a huge favor and pick it up, it's excellent, and it has to do with this kid here. He is a jerk, but that doesn't make up his entire character. He has layers and a backstory that explains his personality that trumps most C-list characters DC has been putting out in recent history. The best part of his character? He's LEARNING to be a better man. Sure he acts like a jerk to certain people, but he's also learning to fly in to protect the innocent instead of flying in for the limelight. His adventures have just begun, and I can't wait to see how high he soars.
4: Olive Silverlock
Yeah, she's no superhero, but she's the main character to her series and has a superpower, so I say she passes. This girl may look average, but she is without a doubt a detective comics heroine in the making. She has a sense of justice and the intellect that promises a future working alongside the other members of the Bat-Family. Her adventures at Gotham Academy have proven she's already facing some of the stranger things at Gotham. She's friends with Arkham Inmates, solving mysteries on the school grounds and had the guts to stand up to Batman. MOST CRIMINALS CANT EVEN SAY THAT! I loved following Olive's adventures, and with the second semester starting up, I can't wait to continue.
3: We Are Robin
These guys got a pretty crappy deal. After Endgame, Gotham was fresh for new heroes and villains, and while I enjoyed the stories that were put out, most people refused to pick them up until Bruce Wayne returned. Which is a shame, because all of these characters are fantastic. That's why I couldn't just pick Duke and be done with it. Each of these characters has their unique personality. The quirky Riko, the bad boys Dre and Dax, the tough girl Isabella, and the adrenaline honor student Duke. Even Troy, the football player who died in the second or third issue, had an engaging personality that made us want to learn more. They may have gone their separate ways, but to us, they will always be Robin.
2: Beast Boy
Beast Boy is my favorite Teen Titan. First off: his power. He can transform into any animal.... Do I really need to explain why that's friggin awesome?! In some iterations, he can even turn into animals, not of this world. That is one of the coolest powers ever created. Second: his personality. The guy can make me laugh. Legitimately laugh. Whether it be the humor that comes from hitting on ladies or the creation of Stank-Ball on the cartoon, Beast Boy can be a funny character. He can also be a very serious character, as seen whenever he's protecting those closest to him or facing old enemies. If a character can make me laugh and still take him seriously, then they'll be considered great.
Marvel Mention: Spidey
This one was legitimately hard to choose. Marvel has MANY teenage heroes, all very fantastic. Ms. Marvel, miles morales, Nova, Robbie Reyes, the list goes on. But in the end, you really can't beat the original. The teenage version of Spider-Man is one of the most iconic superheroes ever created, and its best shown in the Spidey comic that's out now. Peter Parker is a clutz but means well. He can take on the toughest assortment of villains New York can throw, but he does while quipping some of the cheesiest jokes on the planet. Spidey shows us how being a Superhero can be fun, while illustrating that with great power, comes great responsibility.
1: Batman Beyond
Let's give it up for the Batman of my generation. If you were a kid born in the 90's, there's a high chance that you tuned in to watch this badass character protect Neo-Gotham. The adventures of Terry McGinnis can stand as an equal to any Batman stories, because of Terry's take on them. As he stated in Future's end, he's not a detective, but a soldier Who is still getting used to most of this Batman stuff. In a way, he's right, but it's also kinda why I love him. While it's always fun to see an older experienced Batman, sometimes the detective stuff can get boring. With Terry, we get a perfect team up with a year one style Batman, with a sensei to guide him along… And let's not forget that Batsuit... It's so Schway.
That's it for this week's Top 5 Friday! Who is your favorite teen hero? Leave a comment, and I'll see you next time!
Did you let all the nay-sayers talk you off the Marvel characters? No way Kamala and Miles don't make this list!
ReplyDeleteGood list though!
It was a tough thing to pick the marvel mention! i might do a marvel teen list though
DeleteAwful list! Batman Beyond was an adult in his own book!!! You didn't even follow your own rules. PATHETIC. Plus, who edits these lists? The answer: Nobody! Please explain this sentence: "This if you made me think of all the other teen heroes created in comics, so today will be going over my personal favorite"
ReplyDeletePlus, it's Damian Wayne, not Damien Wayne!!!! You are a complete tool!!!!
BTW, here are some of my favs: Bunker, Maps, anyone not on your list!
Apologies on the misspelling of Damian. It happens to me all the time. Why does that make me a screwdriver, I do not know. Plus you might want to double check because it definitely says favorites.
DeleteNow I will give you that in Batman Beyond Rebirth he is an adult, but in the digital comic, something me and Jim love, he was still his 16 year old self.
Now I offer one thing as a rebuttal: I love maps. Bunker, i'm okay with, no strong feelings either way. I want to see your list. I'm honestly curious.
5. Cyborg- JL and Teen Titans, this dude has been everywhere.
ReplyDelete4. Tim Drake-He's still a teenager, right?
3. Jamie (Blue Beetle)- Highly powerful suit, and just a great character.
2. Supergirl- She's a teenager in the new 52, that's good enough for me.
1. Kon-El- I know, I know, he's a clone, but it's a teen anatomy and brain.
These are in no particular order.
You screwdriver!
Jaime would definitely be #6! And I honestly keep forgetting Cyborg is technically still a teen
DeleteOK, is nobody going to mention the fact that Damian Wayne did not make it on this list at all,but the We are Robin group did? Wow. Talk about Stupidity.
ReplyDeleteWhen list came out, Damian had only been a teen for 2 months!
