*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*
In our last jaunt around the galaxy, we saw our Guardians set free an entire planet of political prisoners from the Badoon Empire, but it doesn't seem that there's anytime to break out the pinatas or the RC Cola because before our heroes had a chance to breath or even have themselves some space sex.......... because who wouldn't want to have sex in space........ just for the bragging rights alone, they were contacted by Captain Marvel and asked to come down to Earth to see if they can help with that whole Civil War II hoopla. Let's jump into this issue and see if the Guardians jump in bed with their former teammate or if they take time to assess the situation and find that maybe Tony isn't as crazy as Carol Danvers has made him out to be. Let's check it out.
Explain It!:
Our issue begins with us seeing that Ben Grimm possibly gets himself engaged or even married on the planet that the Guardians have just set free........... I mean, I can't say for certain that's what happened or not because who knows what crazy customs aliens have, but from the look in the recently freed alien woman's eyes and the fact that she says she'll wait for Ben........ It kind of seems like the Thing might have gotten hitched. No time to consummate the possible marriage though....... at least on panel because or heroes have to get their asses to Earth, even though Rocket has a lot to say about it. Which I happen to agree with Rocket's feelings on the matter. If Earth was so great, then why do they have so many people from that planet on the team? Damn right Rocket, Earth sucks, but our heroes head home anyway.
The rest of this issue though........ Well, it's pretty much just a low key trip as our heroes get themselves in the right state of mind and after they finally get there, Captain Marvel lays her spiel on them, while making her side sound like the most reasonable one. Sorry Carol, you can say whatever you want on the subject, I happen to personally agree with Tony on this one and I spent the whole issue hoping that the Guardians would come around too.......... That doesn't happen though.
In the end, after everyone says their hellos and Carol makes her points, we find out that Star Lord has some other problems right now that he's facing that don't involve the current troubles on Earth. As it turns out, the government has Thanos on lock down and Peter now has to deal with the fact that he can't tell Gamora, who spends her time hunting down the Titan so that she can separate his head from his shoulders because she would stop at nothing to achieve her goal........... Which wouldn't really look good from a government stand point, plus could lead to more deaths and the escape of Thanos........ which would lead to more deaths and Quill really doesn't want that on his conscience.
That's it for this issue of Guardians of the Galaxy and even though there wasn't a lot to this issue beyond our heroes going to Earth and having a decision to make about where they stand on this whole Civil War thing, I have to say that this hits at every level because even though it's low key as hell, we get the time to take a look at most of the characters and see where their heads are at in this moment. The art was great throughout and the humor was spot on every time it decided to try and make me laugh. I really dig this title and while I don't really want them being roped into this event, I will be interested to see what they bring to the party.
Bits and Pieces:
Guardians of the Galaxy continues to be a great series and while I like this book for being so far removed from what's going on with the rest of Earth's shenanigans, here we're forced to see them be apart of it.......... and it still works really well and I can't wait to see where our Guardians will stand when things come to ahead in Civil War....... especially if the book continues to look this good.
