Silk #11 Review and *SPOILERS* - Marvel Monday

It’s hard to find something about Silk that I dislike but there is one thing in particular that I am a really big fan of and that is the way that the comic transitions. So many books will have a story arc occur and end and then the next issue will have a brand new set up in an attempt to get the story started. Silk, however, is doing things a bit different. Silk has had little hints and stories that are introduced during a main story and then when that main story ends, the book will follow one of those minor stories and turn it into the main focus. It really makes for a perfectly transitioned story and I’m a huge fan of it. I wish more books would take notes and follow suit. So how does Silk #11 compare to the rest thus far? Let’s find out.

At the end of the last issue, Cindy was saved by a phantom-like being who had been around for a while. Turns out that it was actually Cindy’s ex-boyfriend Hector. She freaks out at first but he talks her down and she attempts to embrace him. She goes right through him as if he were a ghost. Turns out that Hector is unable to hold his physical form unless he is in combat and he became this way because he died. Turns out, when Hector had broken things off with his fiancé he moved out and got his own apartment. Unfortunately for him, some lunatic in the next room summoned a monster or a demon of some sort and the process resulted in Hector’s death. Now Hector is this phantom and he had to relearn how to do things, including speaking. In a cute moment, Cindy asks Hector to tackle her. The reason is because she wants to hug him and he can only hold physical form when he is in combat.

We cut to Cindy in her therapist’s office and she is talking about her issues with anger. She’s angry that she is unable to hold Hector and she’s also angry at Mockingbird. Mockingbird met up with her and told her about how she was going to assign more agents to her parent’s case and she offered Cindy an official job with S.H.I.E.L.D. Cindy is angry about this because it is a job that she can’t take with confidence because it is above her skill level and she likes the job that she has right now. She also says she is angry with her actual boss, Jameson but takes it back because she actually does like the job. In the flashback, Jameson yells at her and ends up giving her a raise. Classic Jameson.

We cut back to Cindy as she works at the news channel and she ends up accidentally reveal herself as Silk to her friends there. Of course, her friends already knew and they accept her for who she is, especially now that she’s not considered to be a villain anymore. Her friends let her know about what they found when they were investigating her parents and they all choose to investigate together. The three of them get to the facility and end up finding a door to another world. They throw caution to the wind and decide to enter. This is where the issue leaves us.

There is very little action in this issue and there are a couple scenes that don’t make a lot of sense to me but I have to say that I’m still enjoying this series thoroughly and this issue was still a joy to read. Robbie Thompson is one of my favorite writers at Marvel right now and I look forward to what comes next. Tana Ford’s art is usually a mixed bag for me but this issue does something special. If Tana Ford does this level of work for the rest of the series, I will be very happy. This is probably the best art that Tana Ford has given this series and I’m a huge fan right now. Everything just looks so great. Silk is one of my favorite books out there right now and I’m already itching for the next issue.

Bits and Pieces

Aside from a few odd scenes, Silk continues to give us consistently amazing content and I’m loving every second of it. In addition, it would seem that Tana Ford has really found a groove and has created the best art so far in this issue and I hope that it continues in the future. The issue was a bit of a dialogue heavy but I loved it and look forward to the future.
