Welcome to another exciting installment of Top 5 Fr-aturdays! Guys lets face facts... When a lot of us guys first picked up a comic, it's because we saw a very attractive super-heroine on the cover. We all have those special characters in our lives that send our hearts fluttering. Maybe you like a bad girl like Poison Ivy, or a good one like Scarlet Witch, or maybe you just like a civilian love interest like Gwen Stacy. I may be in a very happy relationship, but I won't lie and say that I had a few comic book crushes throughout my life and that's what we'll be going over today! As always, this list is opinion based, so if you don't see someone you like... or like like as the case is, I apologize. Enough talk! Let's dive on in and see if I had any chance with these lovely ladies!
You know how people say that girls love bad boys? Well, sometimes it's the boys who love the bad girls... Okay maybe she isn't 100% a bad guy, but still, a thief who teases you with a semi-seductive voice as she gets away seems more bad than good. Selina Kyle is the kind of woman your mother warns you about getting involved with, but as most guys know: A woman that flexible and seductive will find one way or another to get into our minds. Can she be sweet? Absolutely. However I can openly say that Selina won me over with her bad girl charm with killer looks in every version of her... okay most looks. The Long Halloween almost killed that crush.
4: Starfire
You know the girl you grew up with? The one you thought was kinda cute, but was a girl with cooties? When you grow up, that girl might not be so 'icky'. That's the case with Starfire. I didn't read the Teen Titans comic growing up, so I was introduced to her through the animated series. I thought that she was pretty cute with her ditziness and upbeat attitude, and she made me smile every time. Just like most girls that you grew up with, they go away for a while. When I finally got back into comics, I saw Starfire and I thought, "WOAH, SHE GREW UP!" The comics I read still had her aloof side, but now that she was an adult and I was a teenager, I saw that she definitely had some... assets thrown in to boot. The looks may be a huge factor, but I can't help but giggle at this aloof space princess.
Who doesn't love a Woman who is tougher than you? Heck, every lady on this list could kick the crap out of me, but this one personifies my image of a tough woman. I grew up with the stories of Batman and Superman but actually didn't know about Diana of Themyscira until the 2001 Justice League series. Even then I thought that she was just the token girl, but as I grew up, I began to realize how much of a friggin badass she is. She fights monsters and gods on a near weekly basis, and can even throw down with the Man of Steel. Do I like her just because of her kick-ass attitude? Mostly, but it also helps that she's one of the most compassionate and caring people on the planet. So why is she in the middle of my list? While I do like a tougher woman in my life, she might get too punchy if you catch my drift.
2: Supergirl
I love Superman. I love what he stands for, his powers, his personality; you name it, I love it. However when I first heard that there was a Supergirl, I thought that she would be a creepy rehash of her cousin. Then when I finally found a comic with Supergirl in it, I realized that she wasn't exactly like her cousin in personality. Yes, she still contains the bravery and compassion that the Man of Steel has, which is also curious, especially about the world that she ends up on. It makes her adorable, especially as her alter ego Kara Danvers. Before any of you ask what I think about how Power Girl, I think she's fine, on equal levels with Supergirl, but unfortunately has a very sad reputation of being just eye-candy, which happened to the main universe Supergirl as well for a time. They deserve much better than that. Whether you like that sort of thing or not, this Girl of Steel sent my heart flying.
1: Batgirl
Oh, Barbara. Sweet Barbara. Kick-ass Barbara with fiery red hair. How I wish you were real, even though you would turn me down in a heartbeat. But seriously folks, what we have here is a near perfect girl. Barbara Gordon is a very compassionate friendly girl with a massive IQ as we've seen in any Bat-family book. Does she have flaws? Yes, but it's nothing that hinders her immensely. She can be cute and ditzy one minute, then become serious and focused on another. She can hack into a highly secured criminal computer system, but also give a quick roundhouse kick to the face. Plus: who doesn't love a redhead? A master of body and mind, Barbara Gordon makes it to number one for me.
That's it for this week's Top 5 Fr-aturday! Who is your comic book crush? Leave a comment and I'll see you next time!
