After reading the first four Dr. Pepper prequels in this series, I have come to the conclusion that they are nice little distractions that set the overall tone for the Batman v Superman movie with great art and writing, all for the price of a soda.  Really, how can you go wrong? I guess if you don't like soda, you could be left outside on the front lawn while all the cool kids are partying inside the house.  Yea,they're partying with "Doc" Pepper and Ms. Pepper and you're missing it.  Come on, just grab a soda and join the fun...all the Presidents are there...Jimmy Carter is passed out on the couch.




Like most of these prequels, the Lex Luthor issue has limited set pieces, but does enough without the changes of scenery.  The chapter opens with a little twist making Lex go from a sympathetic character lamenting the destruction of his Lexcorp tower during the alien attack to a...well, he came off as a pompous ass to me.  So, what I'm saying is he was typical Lex Luthor.


Lex is cutting the ribbon for a bigger, better tower on the site of the old, all while telling the world that while Superman's recent actions have chased others from Metropolis, he is standing tall and staying put for the common man.  It's a nice speech, but we quickly learn that while Batman is known as the man who prepares for everything, Lex is right behind in that character.  The destruction of Metropolis is just one more thing that is lining up to make Lex a ton of money.

Lex is eating up the attention and afterwards, allows the press to ask a couple questions before leaving.  That's when things get interesting.  After a couple of softball questions that allow Lex to grandstand some more, a reporter calls lex a hero...just like Superman.  That's when things get dark.  Kind of.  Lex tells the reporter that Superman is an unknown and you can tell that just eats him up inside.  After giving a pro human statement he heads off to Lexcorp HQ and retires to his office for the day.  Seeing what's on the multiple video screens as the issue ends made this the best of the prequel comics, in my opinion.

I am a Lex fan so it makes sense that this would be my favorite chapter of these prequels, but I am not a fan of Jesse Eisenberg's version...at least not what I've seen so far.  This chapter actually made me like his version a bit more and the only thing that could have made it better is if Lex yanked off that ridiculous hair to show he is in fact bald and beautiful. I really thought that was going to happen!

The art in this chapter was really good, though it made Jesse Eisenberg's Lex a bit too pretty.  I've seen the trailers Joe Bennett and this ain't no Jesse Eisenberg...he looks more like the love child of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson...sexy!

Bits and Pieces:

For the price of one delicious soda, you can see a sexy Lex Luthor almost show how much he hates Superman.  We do get to see the start of the cracks in his public facade leading to the evidence that he is indeed working on an answer to this alien problem.  This is my favorite prequel chapter.
