Unfollow #2 Review and *SPOILERS*

It’s Gonna Be Exactly Like Police Academy

Written By: Rob Williams
Art By: Mike Dowling, Quinton Winter, Clem Robins
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Remember how in the beginning of Police Academy, we see the future enrollees in their regular environments as citizens and learn of the events that drive them to take advantage of the new relaxed requirements of the academy? This is just like that. Except instead of the police academy, everyone is going to mulit-billionaire social media app developer Larry Ferrell’s private Caribbean island. And instead of attending due to a sense of social justice or at least due to a questionable court order, it’s because they’ve all been selected by Ferrell via a remotely-installed “140” app that endows them with a hundred and twenty million dollars and a free trip to his isle. And instead of a bunch of loveable misfits, so far we have seen some fairly problematic people that might spike the punch at this millennial soiree. Well, I want to see what’s going to happen, don’t you? I didn’t get the “140” app but I did pay four bucks to read the comic book, so come along for my review!

Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Big bad Brother Eye has finally been laid to rest and in my mind that means it's time to break out the pinatas and RC Cola, but for a man stuck out of time, surrounded by the rubble of a Earth that's seen better days......... Well, I guess we'll hold off on the party favors for right now.  In the previous issue, we saw Batman, Barbara Gordon, Micron and Inque take on Brother Eye, who for the sheer satisfaction of being able drag Tim Drake's dead body through the streets of Neo Gotham, went and got himself a physical form.  Form has it's drawbacks though as we saw when Batman beat the holy hell out of him before Inque sacrificed herself by invading his inner systems, preventing Brother Eye from downloading his consciousness somewhere else before he exploded.  The fight is over, but the question that remains is........ What happens next?  Let's jump into this issue and see how Tim Drake is adjusting to future life and if the Batman Beyond suit will ever be functional again.  Let's check it out.

Midnighter #7 Review

Lost Love

Written by: Steve Orlando
Art by: Aco, Hugo Petrus, Romulo Fajardo Jr. and Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

I have a confession... I used to be in love with Midnighter. In my mind, he couldn't do any wrong and I thought I'd stick by his side forever.  You know how it is in the beginning when that new love can't do anything wrong in your eyes?  Oh, those were good days indeed.  Unfortunately, those times never last.  Suddenly what made me fall in love with M began making me more and more angry.  It started with his words.  What intrigued me at first just started sounding like nonsense.  Fist Questions?  Pressing the Flesh?  I guess I never knew what he was really talking about,  I just loved the way he said it.  I should have run away then, but I convinced myself to stay.  "It will get better", I tried to convince myself, knowing deep down inside that wasn't true.  How could it be?  M had become a parody of himself and I'm left watching from the outside while others enjoy his company.  Maybe I could lie to myself or at least pretend I still love him, but that point has long passed and I don't want to be that sort of person.  I'll leave that for Midnighter's cadre of hangers-on.  There are certainly plenty of them left.  What, you're here for a comic book review and not to see my soul pouring out on the screen.  What a relief and let's get on with it...

Survivors’ Club #3 Review and *SPOILERS*

Written By: Lauren Beukes and Dale Halvorsen
Art By: Ryan Kelly, Eva de la Cruz, Clem Robins
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

I Get By With a Little Help From My Demons

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

We return to Vertigo’s twisted version of Scooby Doo, Where Are You?, except instead of a tight-knit crew investigating a mystery, we’ve got a bunch of traumatized people pursuing three distinct stories, and instead of Scooby Doo we’ve got the hectoring, invisible Mr. Empty plus the creepy ghost monster Kiri hangs out with, and instead of the Mystery Machine van, we’ve got the arcane, secret pasts of every member of the Survivors’ Club hanging over them perpetually. Otherwise, it’s pretty much the same, so we can figure that all of the crazy things happening in this story will be the result of the crazy old caretaker who hates meddling kids. Right? Right?? Oh no, this is going to be the further exploration of humanity’s seedy underbelly and the psychological torture we put one another through, isn’t it? Well, I’m prepared to have my blackened heart torn from my ribcage and shoved in my face as proof of my basest nature, how about you? Read on!

Harley’s Little Black Book #1 Review and *SPOILERS*

Written By: Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner
Art By: Amanda Conner with John Timms, Dave Johnson, Paul Mounts with Hi-Fi, and Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

Blabbey Road

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

DC heard the clarion call of the masses who demanded, “We want more Harley!” and they created convention-specific special issues and Annuals. Again, the cry came: “We want more Harley!!” and DC green-lit a six-issue mini series where Harley Quinn teams up with Power Girl. Still, the yelling continued: “WE WANT MORE HARLEY!!” and at this point, Dan Didio should have checked the source of this outcry because I’m pretty sure it’s Jimmy Palmiotti talking through a voice synthesizer to make him sound like a crowd of people. Here we have another spin-off from the regular Harley Quinn title, a new bi-monthly series titled Harley’s Little Black Book. Back in the hey day of Three’s Company, a “little black book” was something in which you keep the phone numbers of your sexual conquests, but in this case it seems to be a journal of some sort. Are the personal thoughts of Harley Quinn something we really want to read, considering she otherwise confides in a mangled, stuffed beaver? Probably not, but read on to be sure!

Home Is Where The Heartache Is

Written By: Robert Venditti
Art By: Martin Coccolo, Billy Tan, Mark Irwin, Tony Avina, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Now that planets....... and any given thing that happened to be chilling in space with the misfortune of coming into contact with Source Wall dandruff have stopped turning to stone, Hal has decided that the Green Lantern Corps can suck it because he's not going to do all he can in order to find out what happened to his friends, he's going home and that's that.  Well, maybe it's not that dramatic, but with the Corps missing, I would think that he'd be more interested in finding out why than visiting his hometown.  That's just me though and what the hell do I know?  Yeah, some things have happened since the last time we tiptoed through the pages of Green Lantern and that's the fact that we found out Hal was really the one responsible for stranding the Corps in the Universe that existed before our own, when he closed the fissure in the Source Wall...... Yeah, that's a dick move and I hope John Stewart socks Hal one when the Corps eventually makes it back to their Universe.  So yeah, Source Wall fixed, Black Hand out of our hair for awhile, why not take a trip home?  Let's check it out.

Action Comics #47 Review

The White Shadow

Written by: Greg Pak
Art by: Georges Jeanty, Karl Story, Wade Von Grawbadger, Sean Parsons, Dexter Vines,
Tomeu Morey, Pete Pantazis and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

Didn't I just read and review Action Comics?  While that shouldn't be an issue as I am actually enjoying this book more and more as we distance ourselves from the Truth, it points out my biggest problem with this "crossover".  I can't tell when each issue takes place in relation to each other.  Did Clark become a Mythbrawler after going to Siberia, but before teaming up with Parasite?  I have no idea and the way the issues are released (like this one coming out twice in three weeks) hasn't helped.  I've still tried to review each issue on it's own merits and Action Comics is my favorite of the bunch.  Is that a tallest midget in the circus thing or am I not allowed to say it?  Let's find out the answer to that riddle and so much more...now.

Batman and Robin Eternal #9 Review

Bane Of My Existence

Written by: Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly
Art by: Roge Antonio, Allen Passalaqua and Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

If you held a gun to my head and asked me my overall feeling for Batman and Robin Eternal, I'd say that I like it.  Then I would call the police when you weren't looking and make sure you rot in prison for what you did.  While you were locked away, you'd wonder how the story ends because they don't let you read comics where you're going and I wouldn't tell you because you are a jerk.  What does this have to do with this week's Eternal?  Nothing at all, except that I want you to know that while I haven't been too kind to a bunch of the individual issues in this weekly series, I still have an overall feeling of positivity when thinking about it.  That and I support gun control...or maybe a-holes with guns control if that's a thing.  Let's get on with this week's issue...

All-Star Section Eight # 6 Review and *SPOILERS*

It’s the End of the World As We Know It, and I Feel Drunk

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Here we are at the end of the All-Star Section Eight mini-series, and what a long, strange trip it’s been. Did I write “strange?” I meant “gross.” After getting inside Six Pack’s drunken noggin last issue and seeing his true self as a homeless alcoholic, the ol’ barf bag was visited at Noonan’s Bar by a beckoning Superman. Where do they go? What do they do? Do you think Superman can super-smell Six Pack? Read on to find out!

Robin War #1 Review and *SPOILERS*

Cover Price: $4.99
Release Date: December 2, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

I've been waiting for this event for awhile........ Hell, I've been waiting for this event before it was even announced because I just love the idea of a book dealing with all the Robins.  Even though it might sound like heresy, I love Robin way more than I love Batman....... maybe it has something to do with that whole thing where imagining myself as Batman is way harder than imagining myself as a young partner next to him..........even though I'm not that young anymore.  Still, I love the idea of this book and with the added attraction of having the We Are Robins crew involved, well I couldn't be happier because that book came out of nowhere and became one of my favorite new titles that came out in June...... That's right, everything's coming up Milhouse.  Let's jump into this issue and see if all my excitement was worth it.  Let's check it out.

Art by: Ricken, Paolo Pantalena, Noel Rodriguez, Trevor Scott, Johnny Desjardins, Scott McDaniel
             and Tony Avina
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: November 11, 2015

Should I start this review by telling you how much I want this book to kick ass?  Maybe I can make a plea to Will Pfeifer to put on his boots get his lunch pail and get to work making his run better than what it's been so far.  Or I can tell everyone to sit tight in the trenches and wait it out until February when Greg Pak rides in on his white horse to save the day.  I think I will take all of the above for $1000, Alex.  At least this issue is a little more traditional than the previous and features most of the team.  Is it good, though?  Let's find out...

Green Lantern #47 Preview

Art By: Martin Coccolo
Cover Price: $3.99

Release Date: December 2, 2015

Hal Jordan returns to Earth at last! Just in time, too, as the threat of the villain called Sonar is heard!

Hey alright, we get some Sonar action going on here.  I wonder if it's going to be the villain from Hal's past or if he's going to be re-imagined here to be a first appearance type situation.  Either way, I'm happy as hell that Hal is back on Earth and seeing some familiar faces........even if he doesn't know they're familiar.

Justice League of America #5 Review and *SPOILERS*

Who's looking forward to continuing their Rao story-line?...... Well, too damn bad because you won't get it here.  That's right, with delay after delay we finally get our JLA book and it's a one shot to fill up the gap in time so people don't go walking around wondering whatever happened to that JLA title and slapping a picture of Rao on milk cartons.......... does that still happen?  Since there isn't much to say to bring you up to speed, I guess I'll just say this is a Martian Manhunter story and whether it makes sense or not, he's in the Justice League just so the title makes sense.  Okay, let's check it out.

Justice League 3001 #6 Review

Brain Stew

Written by: J.M. DeMatteis and Keith Giffen
Art by: Colleen Doran, Hi-Fi and Marilyn Patrizio
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: November 25, 2015

I have been a fan of this book since the good old days when I called it Justice League 3000.  Yep, back then I was captivated by the humor and fun of an alternate Justice League based on incomplete and erroneous history books and a crazy parasitic cloning process.  I didn't need much of a story, just some laughs and boy did this book deliver.  Unfortunately, not many people followed and DeMatteis and Giffen started adding more and more characters in hopes of gaining an audience, but what it really did was make it an overcrowded mess.  Did I forget to tell you I walked to school uphill...both ways...in the snow?  Because of all that (including walking to school), I have fallen off this book and it's a shame because it was one of my favorites less than a year ago.  Throw in the fact that Howard Porter is gone to more Super pastures and this book has the cards stacked against it when it comes to winning back my love.  So, did this issue win despite the odds?  Let's find out...

Sugar and Spike: Two Babblin’ Babies – Weird Comic Bookery

From the outset, superhero comic books have attempted primarily to capture the imaginations of children and part them from their unearned pocket change. Sometimes a child character is added to the proceedings, as Robin was with Batman, or Bucky was with Captain America. Other times children will play front and center in the adventures, as in Jack Kirby’s Newsboy Legion or the Teen Titans. There’s often a fine line being trod here, an attempt to create characters meaningful to an eight year-old yet not ridiculous to a twelve year-old. Then there are comics like Sugar and Spike, which apparently wanted to court the untapped pre-literate toddler market. Brush up on your baby talk and read on to learn more about this relic from a Weirder DC Comics!

The Omega Men #6 Review

Da Bomb!

Written by: Tom King
Art by: Barnaby Bagenda, Romulo Fajardo Jr, Tomeu Morey and Pat Brosseau
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: November 25, 2015

To say that Tom King is giving fans of The Omega Men a slow burn story is like saying that Eric kind of likes playing with his Imaginext toys.  Yep, both are gross understatements.  In fact, I joked that the reason that DC Comics brought this book back from cancellation was so that King could have the twelve issues he needed to introduce his main characters.  I kid because I care.  While I was not a big fan of the last issue, this issue proves that that was just a minor misstep.  Of course, King gives us more questions than answers, but that is what fans have come to expect and the questions and answers we get are really good.  I don't know why I'm using this opening paragraph to review the book, so I'm going to stop right now and get on with the full review.  And away we go...

Wonder Woman #46 Review and *SPOILERS*

The Gods Must Be Crazy

Written By: Meredith Finch
Art By: David Finch, Scott Hanna, Brad Anderson, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: November 25, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

When we first started this story-line with Wonder Woman taking on Aegeus I was a fan, but recently the story feels like it's stalled a bit in not knowing what it wants to be.  We've had this douche-cookie Aegeus trying to kill Wonder Woman so he can take the mantle of God of War, Donna Troy being let out of her prison on Olympus, the Three Fates being murdered, Aegeus killing Donna Troy after she started to become a real girl and finally The Goddess of Peace: Eirene apparently being the one behind Aegeus' attacks.  I understand that stories can branch off to set up things for the future, but nothing really seems to mesh here.  Hopefully that changes as we see Diana confront The Goddess of Peace and hopefully we get a understanding about what's going on in the world of Wonder Woman.  Let's check it out.
