Prez #5 Review

World Apology Tour

Written by: Mark Russell
Art by: Ben Caldwell and Jeremy Lawson
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

*Spoilers below, Score and summary at the bottom*

Prez is in its penultimate issue. While it has been entertaining to this point, no real story has been presented, only story elements. The world building for our future has been entertaining and scary, but this issue finally establishes a story line we could look forward too, but is it too little too late since this is ending next month? Are we getting a second arc?

The Flash #45 Review

Welcome to the Thunderdome

Written by: Robert Venditti and Van Jensen
Art by: Brett Booth, Vicente Cifuentes, Ale Garza, Norm Rapmund,
            Andrew Dalhouse and Pat Brosseau
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 30, 2015

I have been a big fan (maybe even the biggest) of Robert Venditti, Van Jensen and Brett Booth's run on The Flash.  It doesn't hurt that I love The Flash as a character and can't wait each month to see what the old speedster is up too.  Lately. he's been fighting off the "Zoom Crew" and while I liked the name "New Rogues", I'll concede to the Crew because that's a pretty awesome name.  It's also an awesome team that Professor Zoom has put together.  A team with one solitary mission...make the world forget about the Flash.  To do so, they can't just kill him, but tear down the myth, the myth and yes...the legend.  I'll give Zoom credit, he knows how to play the pieces on the board and the way last issue ended, he may just win the game outright.  Of course, Barry will have something to say about that as will a couple of friends as well.  It's all leading to a huge clash between Thawne and Barry, but is it any good?  Let's find out...

Batgirl #45 Review

Here Comes the...

Written by: Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher
Art by: Babs Tarr, Serge LaPointe and Steve Wands
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 29, 2015

After reading this issue, I can only wonder what someone who hasn't read Batgirl in a while would think.  I'm sure the big question on their minds would be, "Where is Batgirl?"  Cameron Stewart and Brenden Fletcher started their run with a heavy dose of Barbara, much to the chagrin of fans wanting to see her in her purple outfit, but recently this book has shifted gears.  Batgirl has been front and center, but that's not the case this month.  It's time for a wedding and while I have been waiting for this day to happen, I came away disappointed.  Why?  Let's find out...

The Technosapiens have arrived on Earth and no one is safe!  They're out and about converting mofos and the next thing you know, you'll be walking up to Donald Sutherland and he'll begin pointing and screaming at you all in his Technosapien glory.  That's a Invasion of The Body Snatchers reference son, get on the trolley........ Really though, that's what's going on.  The Technosapiens have come and are converting everyone they can as they try to find the song that soothes their techno souls.......... which seems like it's coming off of Cyborg.  Hopefully, now that the Tekbreakers have arrived, Earth stands a chance against this invasion, but it might be harder than expected because it was the Tekbreakers, who during May's Sneak Peek, came to Earth and killed Cyborg.  I'm guessing Vic is holding a grudge, but with any luck the people of Earth just might survive this incursion.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out........ and hopefully get some background on who and what the Technosapiens and the Tekbreakers are.  Let's check it out.

Countdown to The Dark Knight: The Master Race: Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #2 Review *SPOILERS*

Its not a Mud Hole.

Written By: Frank Miller
Art By: Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, Lynn Varley
Price: $2.99
Release Date: April 1986

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

The last time we left our aged Dark Knight, he returned to Gotham after ten years, in the midst of one of it's biggest crime waves. Not only did he return though, but also Two Face. The pair ended up fighting in the skies above Gotham in spectacular fashion, which leads to the city learning that Batman has returned...but with it monsters of the past begin to arise.
The first issue was a great start to the series. Granted it was an info dump that introduces the reader to the dark world that Batman is returning to, but it still had amazing action, dark imagery, and a helluva lot of violence. It definitely set the standard.
This issue has the old man Bat going against the main reason he returned; The Mutant gang! So how does that go down? Lets dive in and find out...

Grayson #13 Review

Like My Loafers?

Written by: Tim Seeley
Art by: Mikel Janin, Hugo Petrus, Jeromy Cox and Carlos M. Mangual
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

Dick Grayson has been everywhere lately, but it's  in this book that I love him the most.  In fact, Grayson is on the very top of my pull list and I look forward to each and every issue.  It's been consistently great with last issue being one of my favorites in quite some time.  If you haven't read it than shame on you because you missed Dick returning to Gotham to let those he loves the most know that he's...you know, not dead.  It gave me the feels and I am usually dead inside so that's saying something.  So, what did Tom King do to top it?  Nothing, because this month we get Tim Seeley on script.  Did Seeley jump right in and amaze and astonish or was this more in line with the recent and disappointing Annual?

We Are Robin #5 Review and *SPOILERS*

Who's Your Talon?

Written By: Lee Bermejo

Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Two issues ago, we saw the terrible death of one of our Robins named Troy Walker and for everyone reading We Are Robin, it was a terrible blow....... kinda.  While I did hate the fact that one of the Robins died, it was hard to feel as deeply about it as I might have because of my lack of actually knowing the character.  Yeah, we've been hanging out with these characters a bit, but it wasn't until Troy died that I actually knew him name........ up until that point, I just called him "Shoulder-Pads"...... and believe it or not, even with my complete ignorance about who these characters were, he was my favorite.  In the previous issue, we saw how the Robin Riko was dealing with this loss and even though after discussing it on the podcast and coming to like the issue more than I originally did, it still felt off for how little she seemed to care about the loss of a teammate and just went on like nothing terrible went down.  So for anyone who felt like me, this is the issue where we get to see the team's turmoil from Troy's death and even though it's a morbid thing to say, I can't wait.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

Justice League: The Darkseid War – Batman Review and *SPOILERS*

Batman as Archie Bunker

Written By: Peter J. Tomasi
Art By: Fernando Pasarin, Matt Ryan, Gabe Eltaeb, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

*Non-Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

Most of the time, we sit on inferior surfaces: other people’s sofas, cheap office chairs, public benches made from cement and wood. When we find the perfect throne, there’s a tendency to cling to it, to swear allegiance to it with the hearts in our butts. Many aspire to have that “perfect chair,” which, as it turns out, is actually a moderately-priced La-Z-Boy recliner. Batman’s found his perfect chair in Metron’s Mobius Chair, part Motherbox and part Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and with it he is all-knowing and practically all-powerful. So Batman wins, right? Everything is cool now? What could possibly go wrong? Does my excessive use of questions make you want to read more of my review?

Batman and Robin Eternal #4 Review

Bat Family Problems

Written by: Steve Orlando
Art by: Scot Eaton, Wayne Faucher, Gabe Eltaeb and Saida Temofonte
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

I love the Bat Family and Dick Grayson in particular, so this book might as well have been made for me and me alone.  That said, while I was a huge fan of the first issue, the last two haven't been as strong.  We did end last week with a cliffhanger that had me hoping for Bruce Wayne kicking ass and then looking at his hands, part in surprise and part in disgust, but sadly, it was not meant to be. Spoiler Alert...Bruce Wayne is not Douglas Quaid, he's not getting his ass to Mars and he may never open his mind to Kuato.  No, this book is not Total Recall, so what is it?  Let's find out...

Aquaman #45 Review and *SPOILERS*

Apparently, English Is Not Galactic Basic

Written By: Cullen Bunn
Art By: Trevor McCarthy, John Dell, Art Thibert, Vicente Cifuentes, Guy Major, Tom Napolitano
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

This story has been a mess in my mind and while each issue seems to progress a bit, I couldn't tell you what it's actually about.  We've got invaders from a mirror Universe Atlantis, Mera is being held captive while her sister Siren works for this mirror Universe for some reason, while posing as Mera and issue after issue Aquaman just fights structures that appear out of nowhere, that either spew out black ooze or some kind of monster.  All this and he's being pursued by his own people that see him as a traitor.  At the end of the previous issue, we saw Arthur discover that Mera was actually Siren and before he could do anything about it, she stabbed him and Aquaman was forced to teleport away, only to find himself on an alien world.......... This story is nuts.  Let's jump into this issue and see what an alien world has to do with everything, as we all hope that it will somehow bring the fun and put us back on the Aquaman trolley.  Let's check it out.

Superman #45 Review and *SPOILERS*

Can You Smell What Superman's Cooking?

Written By: Gene Luen Yang
Art By: Howard Porter, Hi-Fi, Rob Leigh
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It's so hard for me to put this comic into a timeline because anyone who read the Truth arc will know
that Superman was the prequel to the series, where Superman had his identity revealed and had his powers begin diminishing, which immediately would have led to the May Sneak Peek and then instantly into the Action Comics story.  That all lines up for me, but here we pick up where we left off from Superman with only the May Sneak Peek in between and now the timeline is all screwy with me.  So yeah, going into this all you need to know is everything we just talked about.  Identity revealed, powers diminished and besides for that, Superman is going back after Hordr.  Let's jump into this issue and see if the story is better than it was before.  Let's check it out.

Weird Science DC Comics Podcast Episode 42: Asteroids, Nightmares and Comic Books

While some may say that Jim and Eric have been a little depressed when it comes to the books lately, they say "Nein" or maybe "Ten", I'm not sure.  They let loose for a goofy comic book podcast that is all about impressions, jokes and yes, comic book reviews and comic book news.  Eric is still a witch priest and Jim wants him to marry an asteroid and a nightmare.  Enjoy!

Doctor Fate #5 Review and *SPOILERS*

Not Def, But Dumb and Blind...... and Yes, I Mean That Def.

Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 21, 2015

How is it that Doomed is getting cancelled and this gets to keep going?....... Oh, that's right.....sales.  Well, it's not out selling Doomed by much, I'll tell you that.  I don't know why I'm trying to compare this to Doomed, all I'm saying is that I'm shocked that this series gets to continue with all it's sucking.  I obviously haven't been a fan of Khalid Nassour's debut as Doctor Fate and I can't say that this issue will sway my opinion either.  Over and over we keep seeing Khalid not believing what's happening to him as the world comes to an end, due to Anubis' flooding and when we finally do see some believing going on, he's just straight up terrible at being a hero.  Let's continue this suck fest as we see how Khalid lets us down this issue.  Let's check it out.

All-Star Section Eight #4 Review

Here Comes the...Bride?

Written by: Garth Ennis
Art by: John McRea, John Kalisz and Pat Brosseau
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: September 9, 2015

Saying that this book is an acquired taste is like saying that setting your genitals on fire might hurt a bit.  Believe me, it hurts a whole lot and this book is not for everyone.  However, if you enjoy inappropriate, non PC, overly sexual jokes, then you are as sick as me...and you'll love this book.  This issue stars Wonder Woman, has a disgusting wedding and has more vomit and urine than you can shake a stick at.  Sounds awesome , right?  Let's find out...

Sinestro #16 Preview

Written By: Cullen Bunn
Art By: Brad Walker, Drew Hennessy
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

The leader of the Sinestro Corps must travel to Earth to seek help from Black Adam, the one man who may be able to help Sinestro end his conflict with the Paling.

Black Adam?  Black Adam?!  Holy shit, Black Adam's going to be in this issue!  I don't know why this excites me so much, but I'm happy as hell to have these two characters work together again after their team-up during Forever Evil.  Yeah, I'm sad that Lobo seems to be getting the shaft from here on out, but fuck it, we've got Black Adam.

Robin: Son of Batman #5 Preview

Written By: Patrick Gleason
Art By: Patrick Gleason, Mick Gray
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

Damian, Maya, and Goliath are attacked by the mysterious faction known as the Lu’un Darga, and dragged deep inside the earth where they find…Talia al Ghul?! How will Damian face the mother who betrayed him?

Oh no, not the Lu'un Darga!........ yeah, I have no idea what that is, but man am I pumped to see Damian confront Talia.  That's all the solicit really had to say to get me fully engaged.  With any luck, by the end of this issue we'll see this mother and son working their dysfunction out on Maury.

He-Man: The Eternity War #11 Preview

Written By: Dan Abnett
Art By: Pop Mhan
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

Man-at-Arms may have survived the devastating destruction of the Horde’s orbital disrupter, but can he survive...Tri-Klops?! Everyone’s favorite three-eyed Master of the Hunt is hot on the Master of Technology’s trail. Get ready for a battle royale to the death, set in the abyss of Eternia’s tar swamp! Will the bloody victor sway the course of the Eternity War?

Damn, not only does the War Wraith formerly known as Man-at-Arms have to deal with King Hiss, but now he's got Tri-Klops to worry about?  What's old Klopsy's beef?  Working for Skeletor, these two should be fast friends, working on tech shaped like dragons and what not.  Maybe Skeletor is still holding a grudge against Tri-Klops' allegiance with Hordak....... or maybe it's a flashback.  This series has been really enjoyable and I hope we get to see Man-at-Arms restored to his former glory.

Gotham By Midnight #10 Preview

Written By: Ray Fawkes
Art By: Juan Ferreyra
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

After the shocking ending of the Internal Affairs investigation into the Midnight Shift, Drake and Corrigan find themselves on the run from the GCPD! Can Corrigan face The Spectre once and for all in order to save Drake…and all of Gotham City?

That was one hell of a cliffhanger we had in the previous issue and I can't see anyway for Jim Corrigan to come out of this okay.  It's not only that he totally killed two detectives while in interrogation, but it seems that everyone that the Spectre has killed since Jim Corrigan became the vessel for the Wrath of God........ has actually been people that he wanted to kill.  That's right, no god involved here boys and girls.  The Spectre has simply been acting on what Jim has wanted him to do, even if Jim doesn't want to believe it himself.  That's some crazy shit and I can't wait to see where we go from there.

Aquaman #45 Preview

Written By: Cullen Bunn
Art By: Trevor McCarthy
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: October 28, 2015

With the shocking secrets of Thule and the plot against Atlantis revealed, Aquaman finds himself transported to an alien world that holds even more revelations to this conspiracy!

I really haven't liked anything that this Aquaman story arc has offered so far and I doubt putting him in space will do anything to change that opinion.  Hell, I'm not even sure what this solicit is talking about with these "shocking secrets" because besides for finding out that Mera isn't being a Drama Queen and has actually been replaced by her sister Siren, I still feel completely in the dark about what this arc is trying to convey.  There's always a turning point though and hopefully this issue will be it.

Batman: Arkham Knight #36 Review

The Hate Boat

Written by: Peter J. Tomasi
Art by:  Ig Guara, Julio Ferreira, Andrew Dalhouse and Travis Lanham
Cover Price: $0.99
Release Date: October 23, 2015

There are times in life when something happens and it makes you feel "special".  You know what I mean...like when you just know that a guy on television is talking directly to you, or a song on the radio was actually written only for you to hear.  That's not crazy, right?  Good, because I get that feeling every time I read Arkham Knight, but especially this issue.  In the last bunch of reviews, I have mentioned that what makes this book so special and one of my favorites is the awesome guest stars.  Calender Man, Scarecrow, Bane, Harley Quinn...the list goes on and on.  Peter Tomasi has obviously crawled inside my brain and knows just what I want because he outdoes himself this issue.. It's okay, just make your self at home, Peter and everyone else...enjoy the review.

Puppet Master #6 Review and *SPOILERS*

When Bad Puppets Turn Human..... and Then Get Killed By Bad Puppets

Written By: Shawn Gabborin
Art By: Michela Da Sacco, Yann Perrelet
Cover Price: $3.99
Release Date: September 23, 2015

Publisher: Action Labs: Danger Zone

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

For those of you wondering what this fool is doing putting a Puppet Master comic up on a DC Comics site....... well, apparently you haven't been around that long because It's Just For The Hell of It Mondays and even more than that, it's the week of Halloween and that means I get to put whatever the hell I feel like putting up on here and you can't do anything about it........ not that you could anyway, but I'm working on a power trip here so just go with it.  Anyway, I'm trying to get back to my horror comic reviews for Mondays because lately I just haven't had the time to keep up with them and I'm terribly lazy on top of all that, but hopefully I'll be able to continue my fun in horror on a regular basis.  In the previous issue, we saw our favorite Puppets from that epic, decade spanning film franchise known as Puppet Master acquire the aid of an old fortune teller with the ability to transfer souls.  Since our favorite diminutive devils have lived inside wood for so long and have been forced to act along with the will of whoever decides to be their master, they've had enough and after collecting bodies they intend on living out the rest of their natural lives in, our stars of this comic shed their former bodies and begin living like people again for the first time since the second World War......... Too bad, that their former bodies aren't too keen on rejection though because we see the start of our heroes being cut down by their corresponding puppet.  Let's see if the rest of the gang can survive their past and find out what the hell is going on.  Let's check it out.

Green Lantern: Lost Army #5 Review and *SPOILERS*

The Lost Army Redemption

Written By: Cullen Bunn
Art By: Jesus Saiz, Dave Sharpe
Cover Price: $2.99
Release Date: October 21, 2015

*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

I think that most people are just reading this book because they don't want to be out of the loop about how the Green Lanterns escape their fate of being transported to the Universe that existed before our own because there really isn't any other reason.  Just issue after issue of our heroes flying through space, having a brief space fight before doing it all over again.  No answers, no developments, just space fighting...... and I guess the occasional flashback to John Stewart's time in the Marines, but none of that really does anything for our story besides show us that John's seen some shit.  In the previous issue though, something finally happened and we saw our Lanterns locked in a light stealing prison and now it's up to B'dg to squirrel his way through the air vents and find our heroes some rings so they can break out of prison and probably end up in a space fight.  Let's jump into this issue and check it out.

DC Comics Estimated Sales For September 2015

It's time to go Checking The Numbers again........... in case you don't know, that's what I call this little article, but that's just for me.  Anyway, I missed out on August's sales, but you'll be able to see them here in the previous month section, but I don't know if you'll want to.  DC's sales have been plummeting recently and while it doesn't make me worried that we'll get our favorite books with our favorite heroes cancelled, it does make me worried that we'll miss out on some of the really cool newer books........... mainly Martian Manhunter and We Are Robin, those are just my tastes and I'm really selfish so I don't want anything that I enjoy taken away from me.......  Sales though, have taken a hit all around, but for this list we'll only be looking at the main superhero books that we love so much and leaving digital books that have been collected alone to feel like they're inferior....... really, I'm just lazy and only want to do what I consider the main books. Before I start bawling like a baby at how low the sales numbers have gotten, let's check this out and see where you're favorite books stand.
