Top 5 Fridays: The Most Disappointing Things About The Imaginext Hall Of Justice

Jody's busy this week and that means I get to talk about my Imaginext DC Super Friends obsession again!  Woo!  The last time I got to do one of these Imaginext lists I talked about the most disappointing things about the Hall of Doom playset and while most might not give a shit about a toddler's toy, I personally had been waiting for a Hall of Doom since I collected the Super Powers action figures as a kid and when I finally got the opportunity to see that dream realized....... well, it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.  Yeah, I dig that I have the playset, but it could have been cooler and it looks like history will repeat itself here because the Imaginext Hall of Justice playset is coming out...... and while yes, this did have a playset for the Super Powers figures of the 80's, it was something that I never had, but I look forward to finally getting it as an adult.  I just wish it was cooler.  Let's jump into this list and see what nitpicky things I can point out about the Hall of Justice playset.

#5.  Superman Needs A Shield?

I don't know about you, but the idea of having a shield for Superman as a accessory for this playset may be one of the oddest things to come out of this toy.  We've got a ton of missile launchers....... and a shield.  It just doesn't make sense, especially since everything that I've seen of the promo pics for this playset pretty much makes it obvious that this shield is meant for Superman..... Yeah, it could be interchangeable with whoever you'd like to have a shield, but to give Superman...... the most powerful superhero in the world, a shield....... well, that doesn't make me want to use my imagination at all.  A Shield?

#4.  The Hall of Justice Design

Now, I know what the Hall of Justice looks like.  I've been a fan of the Hall of Justice since I was a tiny big headed kid and when I look at this playset, it doesn't scream Hall of Justice to me.  Yeah, you got the lines going down the glass and you've got a sort of dome shape to the top, but putting the sculpture that belongs in the fountain right in the middle of the playset seems weird.  It just isn't all that impressive and as much as I didn't care for the overall design of the Hall of Doom because it was mostly just a swamp setting, it's levels above this playset.

#3.  Look At All Those Missile Launchers

Who isn't a fan of projectiles?  That being said, they aren't always needed though, especially when our Hall of Justice is filled with the world's greatest superheroes.  It just seems off that the biggest play feature on this playset is just a bunch of missile launchers that don't even have a swivel on it's base to allow the launcher to move up or down.  I guess, it's just fire the launcher and pray for the best because while it's fun to shoot bad guys with weapons, it's even more fun when you're able to hit them without positioning the figures far away from the base that they're supposed to be attacking....... at least that's what goes on in my head when thinking about how I'm going to play with this toy.  So yeah, we've got two missile launchers that you can take from the top of the Hall and place in the hidden chambers on the sides........ which I don't fully understand...... and you've got the main launcher that appears in the middle that can be moved back and forth when you turn the power pad of the playset.  It's a cool motion, but adding more missile launchers to this playset just doesn't seem like the best way to go.

#2.  Size Matters

Like any of my ex-girlfriends will tell you, size matters and if you don't got it........ well, they laugh in your face and tell all their friends about it.  I don't know how this goes with the playset other than the fact that the inside is almost non-existent.  You come in through the door and you immediately run into the computer console....... which our Justice Leaguers are supposed to use to identify threats to the world, but looking at this tiny little thing, it might as well be an Apple Watch that the whole team....... if they could fit, would have to huddle around.  It's just not that impressive and while we do have a sticker representing a monitor on the middle of the Hall, it would have been nice to have some sort of back to this toy that would have allowed the floor to continue instead of simply stopping right at the end of the console.  It's very disappointing and the only other thing this playset offers is a jail cell that seems like a last minute addition because of how underwhelming it is.  I would have thought that after Imaginext came out with the Hall of Doom and people like me complained that you couldn't get all your villains in it, that they would have rectified that problem with this........... nope.

#1.  Another Batman and Superman?

I'm not even going to put a picture with this one because........ well, because there isn't much in the way of diverse pictures for this playset yet and I seem to have blown my load with them already.  Besides that though, it's just more Batman and Superman.  Yeah, I know that they're the biggest characters of DC Comics, but I already have six different figures of each character and I don't really feel that I need more.  Back when the Planet Oa playset came out, one of the coolest things about it was that it came with not only Hal Jordan but Kilowog and B'dg...........which isn't too big of a deal now because both those figures have been released outside of the playset, but at the time you couldn't find those characters anywhere else.  Here, it's just more Batman and Superman and if Imaginext felt that it needed to have at least one of these characters representing the Hall I could get behind that, but at least give us something new with it........... Like a Shazam?  Anyone really would do.

That's it for this installment of Top 5 Fridays and while most of you out there might not be on the Imaginext trolley, if you like toys and you like superheroes, you owe it to yourself to at least get beyond your stigma of picking up what looks like a toddler's toy because besides for my complaining here, they really are the best DC toys in stores right now.  Everyone have a great week and we'll see you in seven.

  1. Well the shield might make some sense...Say, its supposed to be a lead shield, and a playset came with someone like Metallo or Kryptonite man...But beyond that...

    1. So when Metallo comes out........ you're saying I should get this playset so Superman can overcome his kryptonite heart?...... sounds like a plan actually.

  3. The green missiles seem to be made of Kryptonite and operated by the Bat; so it makes sense for Superman to shield himself.

    1. I would go with that, but I'm pretty sure that the missiles in the pics are just for the prototype and the actual missiles that come with it are red.......I'm pretty sure at least.

  4. Shea you should know better than any of us since you work at "big box factory"... Mass producing this toy means it has to be simple to mold, easy to assemble, and fits in a standardish "box". All this means a simple toy that looks kinda like the HoJ. Plus it's for kids!
