*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*

It's time to jump back into another issue of Convergence, where we hope to find a redeeming quality to this story because as of right now, the majority of it has been a mess.  Now, I'm not saying that it's been all bad, but it certainly has a lot of trust it has to win back from me.  In the last issue we saw that Deimos had taken control of this whole Convergence event, when he absorbed the power of the Time Masters and found out that Telos was once a man, who was ripped from his family and people to serve Brainiac and after our mad planet discovered this news.......... He cried the rest of the issue before vanishing.  So yeah, not a lot of help going on there.  Eventually after almost an entire issue of our Earth 2 Wonders fighting Deimos and losing, Deimos gives out another speech saying to all the cities, if they want to live, all they have to do is worship him.  As our issue ended, our Earth 2 Wonders decided that they would need backup and began scouring the cities for anyone who would help.  Let's check out this issue and see how they fared.

Explain It!:

Our issue begins with a strange twist.  We see that the heroes that inhabit Earth-0 (our normal New 52 heroes) are witnessing a planet force itself in their reality and it's gaining quite a bit of attention........ It's actually gaining the attention of a lot of characters that it really shouldn't.  Yeah, that's kind of cryptic.  What I mean is we have our normal Justice League heroes checking it out and the Justice League United but it also has the entire Red Lantern Corps there too............ Even the ones who have died, like Zilius Zox and Skallox............. and Guy Gardner who is still a Red Lantern........ I wouldn't mind if this was a past story but it specifies "NOW" as the time and the Red Lanterns being there isn't even the strangest thing.  We have characters like Jediah Caul, Blue Beetle and Captain K-Rot from the short lived series "Threshold" here, even though Jediah died at the end of the series.  It's all very strange and we see that this event is getting the attention of Darkseid and even the original "dead" Guardians of The Universe.............. What the hell is going on here?  .Well, I guess that's enough strangeness from the Universe we usually read about, let's go back to Convergence and see what's going down with Deimos.

We get a bit of the speech again, where Deimos tells everyone that they can live as long as they worship him and our Earth 2 Wonders try to figure out who's a "good guy" as they traverse the planet looking for allies.  Right away, the Pre-Flashpoint Universe comes and lends a hand and Jay Garrick and Wally West decide what they really need is an army of Flashes and everyone goes out to find more "good guys" now that they've driven all The Extremists.......... Who for some reason call Dreamslayer, Dreamweaver when they want him to teleport them out of our heroes proximity......... A lot of mistakes going on here, if that opener was indeed a mistake and the Universe isn't changing around them due to the Convergence going on.............. even though that would be kind of cool, I still think it's a mistake.  Anyway, before Pre-Flashpoint Superman flies off to find help, he tells the Earth 2 Dick Grayson that he might be the most important hero in this whole thing because even though he doesn't have powers, he's the only person to have reached Telos.  So with a little encouragement from Superman........ which is always pretty cool, Dick goes and gets Telos to show himself and it looks like he convinces the old mad planet to help the heroes out against Deimos because he'll probably find out what his real name is and where his people and family were taken............ Even though in my mind they've all been dead for centuries........... just don't tell Telos that.

In the end, our heroes, with a shit load of backup go to confront Deimos and while it originally looked like it would be a pretty one sided fight, it seems that Deimos has rounded up the villains that believe that he's the only way to salvation.  So yeah, it looks like we'll have a big ass fight on our hands next issue........... which should really be pretty epic.

That's it for this issue of Convergence and while I really dig that the story is moving into a really exciting direction with a no holds barred fight between doomed timelines and pretty much everything that we've wanted from this event since it started........ There are a lot of mistakes going on in this book.  I don't know why so many characters are featured in the beginning that are either gone or dead in the current continuity but it really threw me off and makes me wonder if it was done on purpose or if it was just straight up the worst possible cadre of characters that they could have chosen.  I have to go with mistake right here because it's supposed to be the normal New 52 Universe at the present time.  Besides for all that though and the Extremists calling Dreamslayer, Dreamweaver, this was an awesome issue that has finally done what I've wanted to see since this event began.  Heroes from different Universes and timelines interacting.  With solid art all the way through, I have to take back what I said last week, where I went on about giving up hope with this event because right now, I can see myself getting excited again.

Bits and Pieces:

The whole beginning of this book, which should be some of the most interesting, was just a mess, but if you can get past that, this becomes something really fun and really enjoyable to read.  Convergence is still working though it's many problems, but at this point I can see some light at the end of the tunnel and I know that I've said that before, but I think we can really start believing that this event will really give us something to sink our teeth into from here on out.

6/10

  1. The mis-characterization of the Red Lanterns really pissed me off more than it should have. But I loved that book under Charles Soule. And the death of Zilius Zox, as silly as that testicle might have been, was a big moment for his run. It also annoyed me that Kara seemed scared of the Red Lanterns when they showed up--she wanted to be a Red Lantern and was willing to stay with them, but Guy Gardner made her leave. And then when she burned off the Red Lantern ring it was a major catharsis for the character. Last time Kara saw Guy, she was friendly with him (and even helped him save Earth from Atrocitus) and recommended that he find his inner peace. So why would she suddenly be afraid of them?! Besides that, the issue was bleh and rife with problems from my point of view. I liked seeing the heroes team up but not as much as I would have liked to not see Deimos or Telos or any of these jokers.

    1. Yeah the inclusion of the prime earth characters was unnessary and so confusing. Am pretty sure the threshold guys were long dead before forever evil, if those were the old Guadians , they have been dead for two years, darkseid perspective shows him prepping for darkseid war and most of the reds are dead and guy is either busy being and angry mop or got rid of his RL ring. I guess this the writers haven't been reading other DC Books before they made that scene ? Anyway at least they finally stated showing the "suppose " real stars of the books with the Pre52 characters

    2. Maybe she was just playing up the whole worried thing just for Superman's benefit so he doesn't go and give her one of those holier than thou looks.......... or maybe since she's changed so much it's kind of like a recovering addict who's worried to be back around people that are still on her old drug of choice because she doesn't want to fall back into old habits.

  2. Hey, I'm sure I could find out if I actually went and did some research but does anyone know who the hell that guy was next to Guy Gardner in that big Prime Earth scene that was sporting that red jacket? I was actually pretty pissed that I didn't know who he was.
