Facing The End
*Non Spoilers and Score At The Bottom*
Oh man, it's that time again where we grab our sliding devices.......... You all remember Sliders right? Anyway, it's time to grab that device and head on over to Earth-2 so we can get our World's End on and after reading last week's issue, I'm hyped as hell. The art and story were both fantastic and besides for Dick Grayson and Alan Scott being a bit dopey, I was happy with everything we got last week. To catch you up if you need it, the story was all about the survivors of Earth-2 preparing to evacuate the planet after Green Lantern had punched a hole through the Apokoliptean barrier....... Oh and we can't forget Val-Zod and Power Girl taking on Darkseid. Let's hope that all that awesomeness continues as we jump into this issue. Let's check it out.
Explain It!:
Our issue begins with the continued evacuation of "Atom's Haven", where Kalibak has made his way into the sanctuary and that's just not good for anyone. Somehow now that Dick Grayson has left his son in the care of Big Barda on another ship, that means he's qualified to pilot one of the other escape ships......... Well, he does have Batman as his co-pilot and I might be in the minority here but when people say that Jesus is their co-pilot......... I'd much rather have the Dark Knight filling that seat.........but that doesn't help Dick any as a hoard of Protofuries attack the ship and we watch it explode.......... Well, I guess this means that Dick won't call his son by the wrong name anymore.......... You gotta look for the positives in situations like this.
While the survivors of the planet evacuate, Power Girl takes on Darkseid and after a rough and tumble tussle, Power Girl pulls Darkseid off Apokolips and the two fall down to the Earth below.......... which means that the rest of the heroes will be able to get a piece of the big ugly. Sadly though, the two Kryptonians of the group were barely able to make a dent in Darkseid and the rest of this world's Wonders are fairing a lot worse........ Especially Jonni Thunder. Imbued with a genie or not in this continuity, I don't think she's getting back up after that Omega Beam blast. Yeah, it's all rather bleak until the cavalry arrives in the form of Red Arrow, Huntress, Batman and Power Girl after she got over that terribly inconvenient unconsciousness thing.............. So yeah, I see Batman here but no Dick Grayson........ Maybe Johnny Grayson won't have to suffer his father calling him the wrong name anymore............. but I doubt it.
In the end, our heroes aboard Sloan's ship: The Endurance alter the ship with a dimensional lensing device so that they can access the Multiverse in an attempt to allow all the escape ships to.......... well escape and once the modifications are complete, Green Lantern feels the Green throughout the Multiverse and gets charged up and is ready to get back into the fight to save the survivors of the doomed planet........... But will it be enough because as the issue closes we see Alan Scott fly down to Darkseid and we see that all the other Wonders have failed in their attempt to take out the dark god.
That's it for this issue of World's End and we're really moving along now as we approach the ending next week. Now that we've got the the refugees squared away with their escape plan, I guess all we have left is just one more final tussle with Darkseid himself and after reading this issue, I am pumped to see it........ Especially now that Alan Scott seems to be done with all his dopeyness that he's been displaying lately. Like last issue though, this was a great installment to the World's End series and continues the excellent art of the previous issue and amps up the action as we move closer to the finish line. I just wish all of the issues could have been as good as these last two but at this point, it's all about the finale.
Bits and Pieces:
World's End continues to come out of nowhere and "wow" the hell out of me as the series is about to finish and I guess the old saying is correct about how it's not how you start but how you finish and if this and the last issue are any sign of how it's going to be........ Well, everyone should be reading it. With great art and great action, this is definitely something all Earth-2 fans should read.
8/10
