FREEDOM!

Last month in Red Hood and The Outlaws, we saw our heroes taking out a terrorist cell hell bent on nuking Washington DC.  But really even if it's a bunch of armed insane goons with a nuke, my money's still on the Outlaws.  Yeah our heroes saved the day but before they could crack open the first celebratory beer, they were knocked out and kidnapped.  The trio were brought to the "Ant Farm" the flying miniature HQ of S.H.A.D.E., where we discovered that among other things that Kirk Langstrom now works for the super secret agency and they've discovered an alien ship sending a distress signal out for Starfire.  When Kori enters the ship she's only in there for a moment before she flies out screaming.  So let's see what all the hubbub is about as we dive into this month's Red Hood and The Outlaws.

Explain It!:

The first half of this book is dedicated to giving us some background info on our girl Starfire.  We see that after she freed herself from slavery, she went around the galaxy as an ambassador telling her story and acting as a symbol of hope for the less fortunate of each planet.  But this is merely a ruse so she can be granted access to the leaders of these planet's castles and royal type places, so she can confirm the information that these places are holding slaves and then free them.  Really it just looks like Fantasia from Never Ending Story, the only thing missing is Bastion yelling out an inaudible "Moon Child".  You're mother's name is stupid Bastion.  So this goes on for awhile where Kori goes to planets, gives a speech, and then has the freed slaves sent away on a ship she provided for them.  You know good work and all.  Let's jump to the present where Kori's left "The Ant Farm" leaving Jason, Roy, and Kirk Langstrom perplexed.

Well it's time to take a gander at what sent Starfire screaming out of S.H.A.D.E.'s HQ and it looks like the starship they found is full of dead slave alien bodies.  It's a horrific scene that causes everyone's tensions to get a little high, which is why when Kirk Langstrom makes a remark that Starfire might be involved in the alien's deaths, it leads to Roy slamming him against the starship, which leads to Kirk Man-Batting out and knocking Jason and Roy on their asses.

Now we head off to Abu Dhabi to see what Starfire's up to.  You know the only thing that I know about Abu Dhabi is that it's the place Garfield used to send Nermal.  Get educated kids or you might end up a big dummy like me.  Anyway I find out from Starfire that this place is the richest city in the world and that it seems to be a haven for disguised aliens posing as rich people.  The issue ends with Starfire exposing them and then getting pinned by a giant alien who used to be her slave driver back in the day.  That's it for this month's Red Hood and The Outlaws make sure you're back here for the ongoing adventures of our favorite anti-heroes.

Bits and Pieces:

There wasn't much to this issue, we get a lengthy boring back story on Starfire and we have to wait half the book to get to anything entertaining and before you realize it the book is over and all we have is another cliff hanger.  All bread and no meat which I'm sure is a thing somewhere, which is disappointing for the second outing of Lobdell's return to this title.  Also I can't say I'm a fan of RB Silva's take on these characters and hope we get another artist on the book.  Sad to be a Negative Nancy this month but the book made me do it.

4/10
