Frankenstein 3: In Space  COMING SOON!

When we last traveled ahead five years, we saw that Mister Terrific seemed concerned about Batman Beyond, and anybody for that matter discovering some USphere he's been working on in Terrifitech.  S.H.A.D.E. made a big mistake when they sent a robot inside a polar bear to attack Frankenstein, and it looks like the big man's gonna go back to the Ant Farm and return the favor.  Grifter got expositiony when we followed him back to his secret base, and met his tech guru Justin, and Lois Lane tracked down Red Robin, who's been working at a bar.  The future's a weird place.  Let's continue our journey into this strange time, and see what these characters are up to.

Explain It!:

I hope you remember that the S.H.A.D.E. HQ "The Ant Farm" is a very tiny metal ball that moves around.  Don't give me that look Doc Palmer works there, of course there's shrinking involved.  Anyway even though this base is tiny and flies around, that doesn't stop Frank from finding them and planning to go Samuel L. Jackson on them from Pulp Fiction.

While we we don't get Frank quoting Ezekiel 25:17 on Father Time we do see that in his absence that Amethyst from Sword and Sorcery has taken his place, and let me tell you the years have not been kind to her.  Father Time tells Frank that he lured him back here because the superhero team StormWatch were killed three weeks ago across the universe.  That's putting it mildly, they were massacred.  Father Time wants Amethyst and Frank to travel there and find out what killed them.  Frank really doesn't care until he learns that his former teammate and lover, Mermaid was one of the casualties on "The Carrier".  So as the subtitle says it looks like we'll be getting Frankenstein in space!

Elsewhere we see Tim Drake in his new identity as Cal Corcoran, Bar Manager.  Cal's out on a run with his girlfriend Madison, and we learn that this relationship won't last long because of Cal's mysterious past that he won't talk about.  Listen up ladies, if a man's attractive because he's mysterious, nine times outta ten it's because he's killed someone.  Just letting you know.  Luckily Madison got one who's just trying to escape his old life as an Ex-Boy Wonder.  Their run is interrupted when Cal sees a TV image of Batman Beyond.  I guess Mister Terrific didn't keep the security footage to himself after all, and Cal's left feeling sick that Bruce would put somebody else through the meat grinder that is his war on crime.

Grifter on the other hand is feeling pretty good about taking out a group of aliens that used a New Jersey community center to lure people in seeking counseling so they can use them as meat suits.  But really as long as they stay in Jersey I don't think anybody will have a real problem with it.  Grifter collects their disguised devices for Justin and right when he leaves the center, he get's a call from Agent Faraday.  Faraday wants him to do something, and of course Grifter refuses, which leads to Faraday appearing and shooting Grifter in the spine and paralyzing him.  Poor poor Batgi....... I mean Grifter.  Faraday tells him that this is all reversible if he takes him up on his offer, and he teleports away.  I really didn't think that Faraday would be a dick too.  Lousy future.

In the end we see some villains putting a team together for a big score.  The Key and Plastique recruit Coil to be apart of their big job that will set them up for life.  All we know is that this big score is in Terrifitech, so I guess this motley crew is planning on a heist that involves Mister Terrific's very secret Usphere.  So speed up to 88 mph, and go back home for now, and meet me again next week so we can travel to this strange time together.  See you then.

Bits and Pieces:

I hate to say it but this book is starting to feel bogged down by Grifter's shenanigans, and inner monologues.  I know we need exposition to a character that I assume will play a major part in this story, but it really slows everything down.  Here I am having a great time, and then I have to slam on the brakes because here comes Grifter.  That's my only complaint, the rest of the story is really fun, and like every other week I can't wait to see where we go from here.  Get on the time traveling band wagon, and have some fun in the future.

8/10
