No More Blight, But On With The Fight.

Last issue of Forever Evil: Blight we saw many things.  Constantine and Nightmare Nurse unleashed the demons that dwell within their souls with the Blackmare Curse, Phantom Stranger and Pandora went and channeled their light inside the collective unconscious, and after all the JLD's dicking around trying to stop this evil smoke monster, it took Chris Esperanza to become the Spirit of Redemption to finally stop Blight.  So now that Blight's gone it's time for a rest right?  Well it would be but now that the psychic barriers are down, Constantine knows where the Justice Leagues are, and most important he knows where Zatanna is.  So it looks like we might be in for a rescue mission, but not the one we were expecting.

Explain It!:

This issue starts with the Blackmare Curse having psychological side effects on Constantine.  By psychological I mean Nightmare Nurse has him in a magical straight jacket, and going back and forth between drooling on himself, and screaming in rage.  At least we don't have Blight to deal with still right?

So with all this going on Nightmare Nurse starts coming on to Phantom Stranger, and the House of Mystery even opens a bedroom for them to get a little freaky deaky.  But Phantom Stranger doesn't really trust her, so to stop the lustful feelings he decides to go back to the problem at hand, and in order to deal with the problem faster Phantom Stranger goes against Nightmare Nurse's wishes, and PS and NN enter Constantine's mind.  This should be good.  Hopefully it doesn't come The Cell.  Man I hated that movie.  The trailer gave us so much promise, and then we slapped down our hard earned money for a ticket, and then two hours later all we felt was regret and anger.  So yeah hopefully this won't be like that.

Once inside the con man's mind, the duo find a scared little boy locked in his room, trying to keep the demons out.  Phantom Stranger tells the young Constantine that the monsters can't hurt him, and once he proves it to the boy all three wake up back in the House of Mystery.  So now that we have the team back together it's time to find Zatanna, and the rest of the JLD.  With the psychic barriers down, and Constantine's personal connection to Zatanna, the locator spell tracks her down to the mystical citadel Nanda Parbat.  So with the location Phantom Stranger quickly transports the team to Tibet.

Once there the plan becomes very very simple.  Remember that Dead Man is trapped within the dead body of Sea King.  Remember?  Well if you do then the plan is all laid out in front of you.  Dead Man walks up to the gates of Nanda Parbat, fights off the hordes of lower demons, and is finally let in, once Felix Faust and Nick Necro realize that it's really Sea King.  For some reason even with their magical know how, they can't see that it's the hollow body of Sea King with a ghost stuck inside.  But I never really saw them as a magical threat in the first place so this just helps my claim.  In the end the rest of the team follow Sea King and enter using a cloaking spell.  Next issue, we might just see the normal JLD gang, so until then.  Which since I'm a little late on this review might be tomorrow.  Have fun?

Bits and Pieces:

This issue doesn't do much to continue the Forever Evil: Blight story line, and takes half the issue resolving a situation that only presents itself in the beginning of the issue.  It seemed silly, and only there for filler to maintain the length of this event.  But I still am enjoying this event, and intend to follow it to the end, and would expect everyone else out there to do the same.  Even with my gripes this is a fun issue, and continues to show that this JLD team is the best, and I'm really afraid that after this event, we won't see them together again.  So write to you local congress person, and make sure you let them know you want this team to stay together.

6.8/10
