Hogarth Meets Alex P.

I must admit I am a bit biased.  I love Superman.  I also love the Adventures of Superman book  The one-shots and little arcs this series has given have mostly been really good.  Yes, there have been some duds, but when that happens you just wait a week or two and a new creative team jumps on board with another story. I'm happy to tell you that Marz and Shaner have begun their new three part story with a really good issue.

The other thing about Adventures of Superman is that it's sometimes hard to review.  The digital releases are small parts of what will eventually be combined and printed for release later down the line. Yes, I review the art and dialogue and what little plot is given each issue, but it's also a gut feeling.  Did I like it or not.  Well, I liked Adventures of Superman #43.  I liked it alot.

Clark Kent is writing a "fluff" piece on brothers separated and raised by different families.  Suddenly, a comet rips through the air and lands in Metropolis harbor.  Superman is quickly on the scene and realizes it's not a comet at all, but a giant robot.  You may even call it an Iron Giant.  After a short battle, Superman discovers the robot has a link to his past.

Ron Marz has started a story about family ties (minus Alex P. Keaton) and the idea that time and distance never diminish them.  It's a really good start to an arc that I'm looking forward to reading.

The art of the digital titles sometimes gets overlooked, but I don't think that will be the case here.  Evan "Doc" Shaner's art is really good.  I like the classic look of the giant robot and a couple panels really stand out.  This may sound funny, but I also really like the look of his Superman.  You'd think that would be a given, but there have been a few artists in the past that had some weird looking Men of Steel.  Thankfully that isn't the case here.

Bits and Pieces:

Adventures of Superman #43 is good start to another promising story arc.  The idea of family has been done with Superman before, but this has a unique twist.  The art of Doc Shaner is really good and I can't wait to see what both do in the final two issues.

8.5/10
